6 month postpartum tracking ovulation

I’ll try and keep this short but I am 6 months postpartum and have just had my first period since having my baby. I do breastfeed hence why I think it took a while for my cycle to come back. After my period stopped I have been taking ovulation tests twice a day to track it more accurately (I don’t want a pregnancy so soon after giving birth) however my period has returned and none of my ovulation tests came up as positive. Is this normal? How do I ensure I actually ovulate again ready for if and when we try for another baby. Thank you!

Hi OP, you can’t ‘ensure’ that you ovulate especially if you’re still breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mean you have high prolactin levels which suppresses ovulation. Having a period doesn’t mean you ovulated. When I was breastfeeding my baby, he was 10 months old when I got my first period then didn’t get another til he was 14 months.
I probably wouldn’t bother with OPKs if I were you, I’d wait to see some regulation in your cycle.
