IVF confusion.

My DH (38) and I (38) just had our assisted conception video call to go through our results. My AMH count is apparently 3.2, which the doctor confirmed as very low. The chances of IVF resulting in a live birth is between 5 and 8 percent.

I have endometriosis which has undoubtedly contributed to this low count, as well as anxiety and depression.

We’re not sure whether we even want children though have been fast-tracked given my condition and my husband’s own hormonal condition.

The news of how unlikely it is we can conceive and the suggestion we consider donor eggs has floored me. I guess hearing it has been more painful than I imagined.

Has anyone else had a low AMH result and gone on to conceive okay?

Hi @catsandchampagne didn't want to read and run.

If you are keen to pursue a pregnancy with IVF - and you do still have a chance - best thing you can do is start to make lifestyle changes and add in supplements; COQ10 ubiquinol 600mg a day, vit D, Vit C and folic acid as starters. Your partner should take impryl. If you drink / smoke, cut back. All these things will give you the best possible chance. Also if you have endo, are they going to remove what they can? You can push for this as that will also improve chances. Best of luck! I have a son through IVF/ ICSI, and am going through it again for sibling x

Not exactly the same situation but my husband had bad sperm across the board so we had ICSI and had our first son, we was told the chances of conceiving naturally was less than one percent but I had our second son 2 months ago who was natural conception 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think any percent is a good reason to try.
You don't have to go to donor eggs straight away, it only takes one embryo, which can come from just one egg

I had very low AMH as well, similar to your levels. My husband had low motility. I had ICIS abroad and a successful pregnancy on my first attempt.

But I was desperate for a child. I can't imagine putting yourself through IVF if you weren't 100% sure that it was something you wanted.

I was 33/34 when I had my last amh (1.9) and egg collection. I have endo too which has destroyed my egg follicles, which lead to minimal eggs being collected - 1st collection 3 eggs, 2 embryos, 2nd collection - 2 eggs, 1 embryo (cycle I did all the supplements) 3rd cycle 6 eggs, 5 embryos, one daughter and 4 embryos frozen.

It's age of the eggs that matters the most as quality deteriorates as we age.

Sadly with IVF it is guess work and each cycle is a trial to see if they have found the correct combination of drugs/cycle etc.

1st cycle - high level of stimm drugs, long protocol plus ICSi
2nd cycle - high level again with long protocol plus lots of supplements and crazy diet stuff plus Icsi
Surgery between to remove a fibroid.
3rd cycle - short cycle, low dose of simms, icsi and only pregnancy supplements plus protein.

I was in a similar position to yourself, I wasn't sure about kids, decided to try thinking it'll be easy and it took 5 years! All that ivf and 3 surgeries to finally have our daughter. It was a very hard and emotional 5 years but worth it.

Defending on your finances, I would possibly speak to a more supportive/open clinic - our consultant was very direct with us (which is what I asked him to do) and would clearly explain things plus give realistic outcomes with evidence which helped.

One thing to think about is the clinic we used in 2022 stated that 75% of couples under 40 would conceive with them after 3 full cycles.

Good luck!

Just came across this thread, appreciate its very old now but responding in case it helps anyone - at 34 my AMH was 0.4, described as vanishingly low and like someone at least 10 years older. Follicle count of 2-3. Was given <5% success rate.
I was devastated, but decided any chance was a chance and I needed to at least try. We did 3 rounds of natural modified IVF with Create, first round - froze 1 day 3 embryo, second round collected and fertilised 2 eggs but neither made it to day 3, third round, no eggs collected.
I’m currently awaiting induction and ready to give birth at any time to that single day 3 ❤️

OP, I was very similar to you in that hearing the news completely floored me, and made me realise how much I did want a family after all. I hope you have found or do find peace and happiness, however that looks for you xx
