Luteal spotters and successful pregnancy?

Hi everyone!

Looking for pregnancy success stories from our luteal spotters.

I know there are a few great old threads on this topic, but thought I'd start a new one for more recent stories.

I get spotting from around as soon as 5DPO, and have done for 5 years. It continues til AF 'proper' arrives, and usually stops for a couple of days in the middle.

I've had the day 21 progesterone test - it came back low BUT I've since realised I had the test at the wrong time in my cycle. I was counting day one of spotting as CD1 which I now think is not correct.

I have another progesterone test this week which will be one week from suspected ovulation. I get ovary pain and EWCM each month. I also had peak OPK from testing for the first time this month. So I suspect I am ovulating. I don't have high hopes for this next progesterone test though, because I don't see what else could be causing spotting so early after ovulation.

We've only just started TTC but I'm 35 so I'm already anticipating this being a problem - it's making me worried and getting me down. I was pretty much fobbed off by doctors for about 2 years. They said bleeding for sometimes up to 17 days is 'normal but just unlucky'. I had to go and do my own research and push to even have a hormone test done. It's crazy.

I wondered if there are any other luteal spotters here who've had successful pregnancies? I'm struggling to understand how my lining can ever build up enough to maintain a pregnancy if I'm spotting from 5DPO.

Any stories or similar experiences would be very much welcomed! 💜

Hi everyone, bumping this thread. I am currently panicking/worrying about what lies ahead for me and my partner who are TTC.

We started trying in 2023 and I had a chemical pregnancy. Right after that I lost both my parents five weeks apart really suddenly. It totally threw me off trying, I just couldn't.

Anyway, started trying again properly about 6 months ago and one chemical in there. I generally spot in my luteal phase, always a little at ovulation and before my period, but this month is seems to be all the way through. I am 8DPO right now.

My hormones were checked and all came back fine.

I am looking for experiences and some hope. I feel I have lost a year of my life with everything that happened and scared about losing my chance at a family as well.

Eddieegg · 11/01/2025 14:09

@FirstatNearlyForty sorry for your losses. I posted on this thread as I used to spot every cycle sometimes as early as 4DPO but I did get pregnant after 4 cycles and my baby is 9 months old now. Since my periods have started again, they are much more regular, I have no symptoms post-ovulation such as sore boobs and I have no spotting. This has all made me think the issues were hormonal and have somehow balanced out since I got pregnant.

FirstatNearlyForty · 11/01/2025 14:29

It's so confusing not knowing what's going on inside. I find the ovulation spotting (with clear pain and EWCM) reassuring but the rest is very frustrating. I worry it will interfere with holding onto a pregnancy. My prolactin was very slightly high when I had my hormones tested, but the impression was that it was due to stress, which there was so much of.

You are giving me some hope.

I do wonder about going back to the GP after this cycle, given my age and the spotting. See what's happening.

I feel like I have lost a year when it was already getting late in the day. My heart feels very heavy.

I had two healthy babies and pregnancies despite my luteal spotting.

However, in my first pregnancy after almost a year of trying I took progesterone and it stopped the spotting.

Second pregnancy, first month trying I spotted as usual and then suddenly the spotting stopped and I tested positive.

I got told by my doctor to also get Profertil supplements, expressive but they may did the trick!

I just wanted to hop on here and share something. I'm not TTC (already have 4 children) but I've been having problems with my luteal phase and spitting for up to 10 days before my period starts. This is intensely annoying, but seems to have been fixed by me taking a high strength vitamin D supplement. In the UK, a lot of us are vitamin D deficient so might be worth considering if you haven't already.

Sorry I don’t know what happened to the rest of my post there!

Hey!

So I fell pregnant in March 2024, unfortunately that ended in a missed miscarriage around 8 weeks. I never really blamed the spotting for that.

I then fell pregnant again in June 2024 - that pregnancy went perfectly and my wee boy will be 1 next month 🥰

I never got to the bottom of the spotting, I was always kind of sure it was a hormone imbalance but the dr always refused to do a hormone test for me which I still think is ridiculous. The good news is that it definitely didn’t stop me from getting pregnant - I was so worried that it would be it didn’t 😊

The spotting has also stopped since my period came back 5 months postpartum, so that’s a win too!

@purplecolouroffunk thank you so much for responding I’ve been so upset that I had no chance and no one will prescribe me progesterone.

can I ask did you get any spotting with your successful pregnancy and did you do anything different that you would recommend? I get spotting every month 4-7 days before my period and I’ve had it years. I got pregnant after one time a couple of years ago but it ended in a chemical. I’ve not tried again since but we are going to start this month. Thank you again

This was the same experience for me, the spotting disappeared after my pregnancy when my period came back. My other symptoms like bad skin etc also disappeared. I’ve just had another baby who was conceived first cycle.

@Eddieegg that is so positive to hear you both have had this experience. It’s so nice to hear nice stories on this, so far all I’ve seen is negative. Huge congrats!!
