Hello, currently having blood tests to check I’m ovulating. GP says anything above 30mnol is ovulatory. My last cycle was 44.5mnol. Is this quite high? Too high?

I might add that 44.5mnol was 5DPO and this month I had spotting mid luteal phase.

Hello

What day of your cycle on now?
Which tests have you had and which are yet to happen?

In November I had day 3, day 21 and also day 25 because I made a bit of a fuss and insisted on day 25 as that was 7 days after ovulation, I'm using opks and my cycle is longer.

My day 25 test was 50mnol which is "within normal" but I also wondered if this was too high. I'm convinced I had a chemical in November as I had no spotting like I do every other month and my period started 15dpo unlike 12dpo every other month.
I'm seeing a private Gynaecologist tomorrow.

@itsLKtoday sounds like we’re in a similar boat😅so Ive had day 3&21 tests but like you, my cycle isn’t perfect and 7 days after ovulation is sometimes CD24-25. I had my last progesterone test on 5DPO which was 44.5nmol/l.

I’m due to have another one tomorrow to check if ovulation occurred this cycle too (I’ll be 6 DPO tomorrow)

would be interested to hear if your gynaecologist says a higher progesterone means anything or not?

I'm googling away and can't find much about high progesterone at "day 21" 🤷

I've heard from a couple of people that the GPs aren't good at reading these tests. The look at the top line not the indicator or something. One friend eventually got referred to NHS Fertility Clinic (TTC #1) age 36 and the Dr immediately said "so, you're perimenopausal...", this hadn't been mentioned before!
Second person I know never wanted to have children and had entered menopause at 37 and 8 years later just wasn't feeling right, had test after test, eventually paid for private Gynaecologist and it turned out she was being severely overdosed on estrogen and had practically zero progesterone!

I'm 37 now so decided to take matters into my own hands. I know something isn't right. I'm not like I used to be so although I'm more aware of my cycles now that I use opks I Know that nausea, sore boobs and mood swings as pms symptoms are new to me as is spotting for up to 5 days before my period.

Will keep you updated!
I'm 4dpo today.

Have had a good "try" this month doing Sperm Meet Egg Method and have been taking cq10, vit b, pregnacare throughout and also Angus Castus post ovulation which does help with the pms symptoms.

As far as I’m aware there’s no such thing as ‘too high’ when it comes to progesterone. I’m on progesterone supplementation now and just did my day 21 bloods and it came back at like 90 (previous levels have been 25 or 30) and doctor said that was good!

Thank you, that’s good to know! See what mine is tomorrow then(obviously won’t get results until next week) 🙏

@LimeEagle that's good news!
So that confirms ovulation this month!
Fingers crossed for you xx

I spoke to the Gynaecologist for half an hour on Wednesday and he didn't say anything about progesterone 🤷 he seemed fairly uninterested in it....i'd been hoping for a progesterone supplement. He says we can try clomifene (clomid) (after a few things are checked) to being the fertile window forward and more reliable ovulation at day 14.
I'd be grateful to take the guess work of fertile window as it's difficult to reliably maintain dtd every other day for weeks!

He mentioned that those months that a cycle is over 33 days (+5 days more than "usual" of 28) that it's actually very unlikely that one ovulates. Haven't read that exactly like that anywhere before so that's interesting.
Thankfully in the last 12 months I had one 36 day cycle and the rest less and in the last three months I've ovulated day 17.

LimeEagle · 16/02/2024 20:26

That interesting because I’m on CD 36 due to my late ovulation and I had it confirmed! So it does still happen. I think doctors use a blanket rule for everyone which isn’t always the case x

Yeah I hadn't heard it before either but some quick googling shows this 🤷
https://www.shadygrovefertility.com/article/menstrual-cycle-faq/#:~:text=Longer%20cycles%20are%20an%20indicator,progesterone%20that%20brings%20upon%20bleeding.

The reason I paid to see the private Gynaecologist is because I've heard some pretty poor things about GPs ability to reas fertility blood tests and was slightly concerned! 😬

I'm away to read a bit more about it!@
