NHS - ttc second time

Does any one know if any help is offered on the NHS when trying for second baby? I’m not talking ivf but even just tests and investigations to know that everything is healthy ( me and husband?) GP is being very unhelpful and I don’t know if that’s standard 2nd time or if we are being fobbed off! Thanks

No. This is the kind of thing you have to pay privately for. In what way is the GP being unhelpful?

Wolfpa · 11/02/2024 15:36

I don’t think any help is offered for a second

I had to push but my husbands sperm was tested and I had some tests as well. showed we were all fine.
we ended up paying and having the same tests plus more at an ivf clinic to find out what was wrong

How long have you been trying for? It's dependant on the GP but I know some will offer tests but no treatment if you already have a child.

I'm late 30s and husband 40s. Went to GP in October as had been TTC second for over 6 months. Had bloods done (normal) and was referred for scan. Still no appointment received for a scan (I'm in London). Begged for a sperm analysis for husband. Totally fobbed off. Ended up having to go private and lo and behold: low motility and morphology. Told chances of conceiving slim but we're still trying while working on lifestyle factors. Definitely have to push to be taken seriously I've found and male fertility is sadly ignored on NHS. Just wanted to share in case it's helpful. Wish you the best of luck. I so desperately hope for a sibling for my daughter

Thanks everyone. We’ve been trying for a year now, I’m 35 and my husband is 40 and the age gap is getting bigger and bigger as my little one will be 4 in July. GP wasn’t very clear on whether there is anything they can do and just said keep trying, no offer of any scans or tests. Some friends said they were offered more in other areas so im unsure what is the norm and whether to push or just go privately. I think we will start looking at a private fertility clinic as I guess any nhs tests etc would come with a long waiting list. Thank you for all of your comments and sorry to those also going through the same thing 🥺
