TTC#2 age 38 and struggling

I hear so many stories in RL of friends who get pregnant at my age in the first or second month. I'm 38 and have been TTC baby number two for about six months.

I have had some fertility checks which said I have a low ovarian reserve for my age which would mean IVF wouldn't necessarily be as successful with me as someone else but the consultant said that should t affect a natural conception and everything else looked fine.

I use the clear blue digital fertility monitor and I'm ovulating. We DTD on high and peak days. Still can't get pregnant. DH (40) (and me) are on loads of supplements.

Are we just too old, or will it happen?

Have you had your thyroid checked?

PremiumRaa · 10/02/2024 08:21

No I haven't - don't have any symptoms of thyroid issues as far as I'm aware though

It was what was stopping me conceiving in my early 30’s

Rcog guidelines are that you should get a fertility check with gp if over 35 and over 6 months of trying

I don't have good news I'm afraid, nobody knows, we're all different, I was 36 when we started trying for our 2nd, I'm 40 this year and we still haven't been successful, had an early miscarriage 6 months I'm, 8 months later started fertility testing, but then got BFP so yay and stopped that process but it was ectopic and started to rupture so I lost both the pregnancy and a tube, had to not ttc for 3 months whilst I recovered. 14 months of trying now and nothing, I'm very gradually moving towards acceptance that for our family it's just not meant to be.
The thing that makes it harder is the friends who started trying after us and have 1 year olds and 18 month olds. 6 months isn't that long even though it feels it, up to a year is considered normal even in younger couples.

Unfortunately its so different for everyone. I fell pregnant naturally first month but miscarried. Dh has morphology issues with his sperm so we went for ivf as didn't want to waste time as icsi was recommended for us. Ivf was successful first round.
I'm 38
