Chemicals almost every month

Has anyone else experienced recurring CPs and found a cause/ a pathway to investigate the cause?

I’ve had a CP 4/6 months. The other 2 months I didn’t test, so I might have had one- I don’t know. Sometimes I do early tests, other times the CP delays my period and gives me symptoms.

I’ve spoken to one specialist who was very flippant (oh this happens all the time, etc etc, don’t worry about it), but it doesn’t feel right to me that this should happen almost every month. Is it? Is it normal? He also told me to just not test, which tbh I didn’t find very helpful- more knowledge is better than less, IMO. At least now, I know that I’m ovulating and my tubes are open. In any case, I can often feel in my body when this is happening, so I don’t need to test- it’s happened so many times now, I recognise the signs!

TIA for advice

I've now had 2 in a row. The first one was very painful so I knew it was happening. This month's one came as a shock to me as I didn't have really bad pains etc.
I've spoken to my GP and they said they can do a blood test and scan to see if there's anything wrong. They recommended I do my cervical cancer screening too but said I will have to wait 3 months because of the early miscarriage (they don't call it CP). Doctor is supposed to call me today so that we can discuss the steps.

Have you been taking supplements?

Rose38 · 01/02/2024 10:08

And how old are you if you don't mind me asking?

CatmumTTC · 01/02/2024 10:15

CPs are really common. Before the more sensitive tests most women had no idea it was happening. I've decided not to test early because I'd rather not know. Some months have had symptoms and more painful periods though so have assumed CPs. CPs can just be because the egg or sperm was a bit abnormal, didn't even get to the stage of implantation. It's just bad luck, not usually an indication of something more serious.

I have heard some folks on here talk about short luteal phases affecting implantation though. Could this be the case here? Or do you have a standard LP?

@Rose38 im 37 and have a 2yo. I take all the supplements recommended in It Starts with the Egg except DHEA, as I have a family history of breast cancer. I’m sorry to hear about your losses. How long have you been trying?

@CatmumTTC my luteal phases are usually 14-15 days, and my day 21 progesterone was fine. So I’m not sure if it would be worth taking progesterone next time?

im starting to get nervous about immunity issues- I have hypothyroidism (controlled) but I know it can still be associated with autoimmunity issues affecting fertility. But it’s a controversial area and the treatment sounds awful (suppressing your immune system.)

I'm 38..soon to be 39 in a few weeks time. I have a 7 year old & 4 year old. I was on the mini pill and came off that in September. I started taking Conceive Plus detox tablets. Those help get the body back to normal after coming off the pill and they seem to have helped. I haven't been taking them for a while now though.

I had lots and my obgynae friend told me this was the curse of early pregnancy tests, and that CPs are very normal/expected and previously women wouldn't have known. Not very reassuring though!

Pupsandturtles · 01/02/2024 11:11

How many did you have @madderthanahatter ? Have you been successful since?

I agree that back in the day, women wouldn’t have known they were pregnant early on. But today, most people test using sensitive tests- and I don’t think most people are having CPs almost every month, right?

I've had at least 1, possibly 2. They are very common and you only know about it because you're ttc and testing. Before contraception was a thing women probably had them all the time and never knew.
Hate to say it but not testing until your period is a few days overdue might be a good idea, less stressful?
Otherwise keep trying and see your GP for hormonal checks if still not conceived in another few months

NightSkyWanderer · 01/02/2024 12:16

Irs completely normal and most women aren't even aware as they happen so early and know because they are testing. Unfortunately it's why they do recommend you shouldn't be testing before your period due date as your more likely to pick up on chemicals and they are extremely common and nothing to worry about in most cases. Not every egg that fertilises will implant. Its normal for healthy couples to take upto two years.
I've had chemicals and I'm currently now 4 months pregnant so there's hope

Rosesanddaisies1 · 01/02/2024 12:21

I was going to suggest taking progesterone after ovulation but perhaps not if you have 14-15 day luteal, and your day 21 was OK. You could try and get it privately and have a go though? It doesn't do any harm either way. otherwise, others are right, CP are far more picked up now that tests are so sensitive. 6 months TTC at your age is not really a cause for concern so perhaps not testing until you're 1 week past AF due might be better.

Pupsandturtles · 01/02/2024 12:33

Thanks @NightSkyWanderer how many CPs did you have? @Rosesanddaisies1 ill give progesterone a try but I agree, it’s unlikely to be my issue
