Question about blood tests

Hi all, I’ve been TTC now 12 months and made the call to my GP today for some testing. My cycle has always been regular 29-31 days up until 4 months ago when it suddenly became irregular, longest cycle in that time being 42 days.
I do OPKs every month and always get a peak and my luteul phase as always 9-10 days long.
My doctor has said about testing my progesterone levels 7 days before my period is due. But now having done some reading online, it should be 7 days after ovulation. Obviously for most people with a 14 day luteul phase, that day would be the same. But if my luteul phase is 9-10 days, doing it 7 days before my period would only be 2-3 DPO. When should I go for it? Somewhere in the middle?
I would call my doctor back but it’s honestly impossible to get through and actually speak to someone.

Hey, I was told I needed 2 blood tested.
1 at day 21 of cycle
1 at day 1-5 of cycle.
Am in the progress of these now.
I am dubious regarding day 21 as I hadn’t long ovulated & have read on here it needs to be at least 5 days after. Sorry if that adds to your confusion.

@Girlfolk I have the same LP. Ignore the term cd21 bloods and just go 7 days after confirmed ovulation, it doesn't matter how near or far from AF it is it just has to be around 7dpo to calculate your progesterone levels and confirm ovulation. The range is <35 to confirm if I remember correctly. Good luck 🤞

Thank you both that is really helpful. Still waiting to ovulate, currently CD 27 still not ovulated yet.
I am having the day 3 tests too but that’s easy enough to calculate!
