Tips to get pregnant

Hi all,
Me and my hubby have been ttc since May 2023 and had absolutely nothing. We have tried sex every day, every other day, lifting legs after, laying in bed for a LONG time after, fertility lubricant, changing diet, vitamins. And absolutely nothing has worked.

Everyone says "it will happen when it happens" but it's so hard when you want it so much and nothing is happening.

Any advise would be great or any success stories

We were trying for 3 1/2 years and ended up getting pregnant on 2nd round of IVF and now have my 2 week old DD asleep on my chest. It's been a loooong road where I could list the millions of things we tried but honestly- none of it worked.
However that doesn't mean it won't for you. Everyone's journey is so different. The only advice I would give is depending on your age, don't wait to start having investigations as the wait times are loooooong on the NHS and also they may find it's something they can fix and it will then happen.
Also, don't give up hope- which I know is bloody hard and I did it loads of times but I do believe stress was a factor in me not getting pregnant.
I wish you all the luck in the world and remember every month is an opportunity, so keep and be good to yourself in the meantime. Xx

@CD1997 have you thought about getting a fertility MOT done privately? I had this & really helped me

CD1997 · 28/01/2024 08:52

Thanks, I'm nearly 27 but had an operation earlier this year as I had retrograde menstration and cyst burst on my ovaries. The GP said they wouldn't refer me until iv been trying a year so won't let me go back until then which is frustrating. I looked at going private but it's so expensive I don't think we could afford it all.

@CD1997 it is expensive yeah. Mine was £400

PinkPink1 · 28/01/2024 08:56

How old is your husband and has he had his sperm checked? Do you track ovulation?

Hi, my partner is 28 and I'm 26 nearly 27. He did an at home test which you order, complete and send off and there was no abnormalities found.

I track ovulation each month, usually ovulate around day 16 of my cycle. This month I ovulated late for the first time at day 19 of my cycle

We could afford the tests it would just be any follow up from that and private IVF wouldn't be an option at the moment really in terms of finances

Hey @CD1997 how are you tracking ovulation?
Are using OPK's or just temping?

In using temp and using the easy at home ovulation tests and scanning them into the premom app which mapps it for you, also checking cm also. We increase how often we have sex around the time my LH increases and a few days after peak

@CD1997 I see, well I was in the same boat. I couldn’t have afforded private treatment but I got the initial tests done privately to see if there was anything obviously wrong that I could do something about or my partner from his sperm analysis. Plus I’m 37 so was worrying about the quality of my eggs & my egg reserve. Also they will send a copy of the report to your doctor so it can really speed things up when/if it comes to you going back to your doctor in May. Maybe something to think about. I wish you all the luck 🤞🏼🍀

I didn't know the test results could be used when I go back to the GP, that's helpful to know. I might think about this just for that piece of mind. Thank you for that.

I just feel that I'm still young and people keep saying "your young you have plenty of time" but I know that being referred through the GP can take a long time so that is a big fear for me

@CD1997 I completely understand. It’s irrelevant how young you are if you want a baby now tbh. Nothing anyone says will make you feel any better about not falling pregnant. x

I feel like iv just put it off. Me and my hubby have been together since I was 14, him 16. We moved I together at 20 and 22 and we got married last June. I feel like we could have tried earlier but put it off to get our career and house and get married. Now I'm just worried iv put off trying for a baby and now something may be wrong which we could have found out about earlier. I just don't want to miss my chance now.

I think you have got great advice regarding doing some tests privately.
I am older than you so in my case my age played against us but it took us 2.5 years and when I finally fell pregnant I had started taking Ubiquinol about 1.5 months earlier (Ubiquinol is active form of coq-10).

CaribbeanCupcake · 28/01/2024 09:37

@CD1997 you'll never know if you would have struggled to conceive at a younger age- I used to stress about this as was 35 when we started trying but I met my partner later in life and was never in a stable relationship before him to have a baby so it's irrelevant really. I don't think it's ever fully the right time- it's just a good/ better time.
Also we had our IVF on the NHS so that's why I say get the investigations started as soon as you can as it's a long time as is everything non urgent on the NHS sadly

PinkPink1 · 28/01/2024 09:39

@CD1997 you're 27 not 37 so you have time on your side to get tests done. Maybe get your hormones checked. I was in my early 20s when I found out I had issues that would affect my fertility but thankfully fell pregnant at 26 naturally. I think insemination and IVF is more successful the younger you are, but there's lots of tests the Dr can do before you seek a fertility doctor. Keep asking the Dr and fingers crossed for you!
