TTC coming off the pill

So I know everyone is different but I would like some insight in to the lengths of time it has taken you to conceive after coming off the pill?

I've been on it for over 15 years and would like to be pregnant mid-2025 all being well. So specific as still saving for our house deposit so more than likely will be buying towards end of this year/early next and I would like the stability before starting a family. I've heard lots of differing stories saying it took 6 months, others over 12 so don't want to start TTC too soon incase we aren't fully prepared! Aware that these things aren't always clear cut but need some guidance as I feel like I'm running out of time as I turn 32 this year and will be more than likely 33-34 if and when this does happen (all being well!)

Hi. I had an implant. When it was taken out it took about a year for my body to get into a regular cycle. However I wasn't ttc at the time. I was just like you looking to get a house. We now have the house and are starting ttc. Best of luck to you.

Pill and implant are out of your system in less than a month and you then get the cycle that you'd have had if you never took them. Obviously that isn't necessarily the cycle you had before you took them, as you are years older.
@Choc29 that was your normal cycle - there would have been zero levels of etonorgestrel in your body about 3w after the implant was out.

I got pregnant with my youngest daughter the first month of stopping the pill. My eldest son took 9 months after stopping and my youngest son first month . Just to add I had my youngest when I was 35

I stopped taking the pill and 3 weeks later had a positive pregnancy test. DD is 19 months now. I was 31 years old.

I'm not sure how normal this is, we weren't expecting it. It's impossible to say how long it will take, I would say be prepared for it to be anything from a month to a year or more.

I know a few friends who have got pregnant first month coming off the pill, but I also know a few friends whose periods went haywire coming off it and took a while to settle down. I think everyone is different and unfortunately it’s impossible to predict as the pill can often mask underlying problems eg PCOS or endometriosis… I came off in august 2022, starting ttc in December 2022 and still haven’t conceived and yet I have regular periods and ovulate fine (unfortunately fall into the unexplained infertility bracket), whereas my friend who has pcos and only has 3 or 4 periods a year fell pregnant as soon as she started trying!

Took 2/3 months iirc after coming off the pill with my first, wasn't expecting it to be quick but sometimes it is, I am lucky I usually get pregnant within a few months of trying. Everyone is different tho. No guarantees.

For both my kids I came off the pill 6 months in advance (didn't actively start trying until the 6months was up) and then fell pregnant the second month for both. But I wanted to give my body time to regulate periods and get into a normal cycle

Didn't go back on it after birth of DD and now on month 6 of ttc 🙄

No experience but please don't expect to plan anything when it comes to conception and pregnancy.

travelallthetime · 23/01/2024 12:22

Was on the pill 10 years, came off, pregnant the next month, same with my 2nd. I am incredibly lucky though, I honestly dont think this is something you can really plan, just dont start trying until you are actually ready!
