need to get pregnant without having sex

I've changed my name for this one!
Me and DP decided to start trying to get pregnant this month and today is the day. But all weekend I've been feeling uncomfortable and itchy 'down there' and we dont want to have sex incase I've got an infection or something. We could just give this month a miss but my periods are so irregular (sometimes a 3 month gap) that we dont want to miss a scarce opportunity. To be blunt, does anyone how to get the sperm up there without having sex? Does it survive outside the body? Let me know QUICK!

Oh AND - personal tip that worked for me - lie down with feet, and preferably bum, higher up than rest of body (ie. pillows under bum and rest feet on headboard) - for half an hour to make sure all the little blighters stay within IYKWIM ?

Good Luck

I think the way they do it in a clinic is to deposit sperm into a clean container, cup for example and then transfer to a syringe type thing and you squirt it in. What about using a syringe without the needle - you could get this at the chemists?

Good luck!

You can ask for a dosing syringe at the chemist, pretending it's for childs medicine. They'll probably give you one free if you buy some calpol or something.

I think I'd be a little bit worried in case the poss infection or any necessary treatment had a harmful effect on the baby. Maybe waiting would be better, if you could bear it? Hope you get well soon.

There's always the immaculate conception.
But seriously, I'm not sure being itchy (which probably means thrush) is harmful when you are conceiving, I believe that it's more of an issue when you are giving birth, and even then it's not really that big a deal. And if your dp gives himself a good wash afterwards he is unlikely to catch it from you and even then a bit of your canestan (sp?) should sort him out. Give your gp a call if you're not sure. Or I think the nhs has a number you can call for these kinds of things.

Hi Rainy day

dp and I (we're both women!) did it using a syringe without the needle in - can get this from chemist/GP surgery (you can always say you need it to give baby/kitten medicine!) and a yoghurt pot!

Make sure the pot is clean and dry, as water will kill the sperm off. You've got about 20 minutes before it starts dying off, so go for it! Give it a quick plunge and lie back for at least 20 minutes. Only took us 3 goes and we have a 1 year old ds to prove it!

Good luck!
