Pregnant whilst on maternity leave

Hi,

I am currently on maternity leave from an NHS job, I have just had a positive pregnancy test… This was not planned and happened whilst I was ‘thinking’ about what contraception to have.

My question is does anyone know how my maternity leave entitlement and pay will work as the two maternity leaves will overlap?

Thanks in advance

Because having someone come back for 6 weeks is a total PITA.

It’s 8 weeks and it depends on how stretched they are.

By my calculations you need to " return" on annual leave in June to qualify on your previous salary.

It is OP's choice, she could certainly stretch it using annual leave if she wanted to, much less unsettling for DC1 and it will save a fortune in childcare.

Congratulations OP.

I know someone who we haven't seen for about 4 years as every time she gives birth she gets pregnant again straight afterwards. One permanent maternity leave!!! 🤣

This happened to me too. I never went back between maternity leaves, NHS job. My DC are a year apart.

I got the enhanced maternity package the first time around, but only statutory maternity pay the second time. This was because I wasn’t earning enough during the qualifying weeks for enhanced pay package the second time around (because I was still on maternity leave for my first baby).

I never went back to the NHS in the end, but it would have be fine if I’d wanted to. Hope it all goes okay!

Weird comment! We have DT’s - they haven’t suffered from any lack of attention- if anything they have benefited from having a sibling the same age. My DSis is 14 months younger than me- a best friend of a very similar age - big win

That's great. Less than 1 year between me and sibling. I hated it, always trailing behind them, always going into new year at primary just as they left and being compared. It is what it is but don't assume it is a positive for everyone.

Hope it all works out for you OP, I know my mother got lots of support from my GM which was a big help. My advice for a happy younger child (can't speak for the older child) don't compare as they are individuals and don't expect the younger child to be as "grown up" as the older child with none of the benefits of being older. Bitter? Me?
