High prolactin TTC - positive stories

DOVE15 · 12/01/2024 20:28

Hi all,

Getting myself in a bit of a state and seeking reassurance ❤️
In September I was diagnosed with high prolactin (over 3000) when normal levels are <500. Using Dostinex this has come down to 300 which is great. Long story short I was misdiagnosed for 2 years and underwent IVF. My husband and I are now TTC naturally, month two of this and I'm not pregnant but I wondered if anybody had positive stories of TTC after taking Dostinex for high prolactin? And if so, how long it took?

I've had a "fertility MOT" recently and everything else - FSH, oestrogen etc is all normal. I'd just really love to hear some stories that might offer some hope and reassurance. ☺️

How are you doing love?

I’ve just found out that my prolactin is 1461, after getting bloods done due to very light, very short periods and cycles become more prolonged as time went on.

Waiting to hear next steps from my GP, but from what I can gather I need a referral to endocrinology and an MRI of my brain.

Hiya,

I had an MRI too and they found a benign tumour. I was immediately put on caberlogen, I went on that for 4 months and now I'm pregnant 🥹 All is good with bubbs.

The Donstinex made me feel rotten and I ended up taking an extended period of leave from work to focus on me, I genuinely think that did me so much good,

Wishing you all the best with your journey ❤️ x

Sorry, that's unclear - Caberlogen is the medicine name, Dostinex is the brand name of that medicine.

That’s excellent news, I’m so pleased for you.

I had my first endocrinology appointment yesterday, had repeat bloods today, and then have an MRI of my brain with contrast next Tuesday. Ended up going private as my own GP rechecked my prolactin, it was still elevated, but he marked it as “normal - no further action” and then had to speak to the dragon who guards the appointments and all she could offer was a telephone call next Tuesday to discuss the fact he’d marked it as normal. Going private has got everything sorted and arranged before I’ve even managed to have a phone call with my NHS GP. I despair.

It is a strange world to be in where I’m almost crossing my fingers that I do have a prolactinoma as it potentially gives me a reversible cause for my irregular periods, infertility and crazy moods and hormones for the last few years. The idea of premature menopause and just never getting to have a baby was destroying me.

@CaraMiaMonCher I just wanted to check in and see how you are doing now?My periods are so light and short since coming off the pill and my prolactin is in excess of 1400 also.

Hiya, well my very very longed for baby is currently in my arms feeding, she's 6 weeks old now ❤️ High prolactin levels were 100% my problem. After taking cabergolin for 5 months we ended up concieving DD on the first month of properly "trying". Wishing you all the luck ❤️
