Struggling to conceive no 2

butterfly245 · 09/01/2024 19:54

Been trying for about eight months now. I know it won’t be investigated until it’s been a year but has anyone else been in the same boat or have any advice? I’m mid 30s so on the cusp of “older Mum”.

It’s starting to get me so down, all of the parents I know with children same age as DS1 seem to be pregnant with no2. We are wondering whether to start an application to adopt as we’re not sure whether we’d want to go through IVF.

anyone who has had a similar experience, I’d love to hear from you

I felt very similar, on the verge of giving up, very depressed etc. then during cycle 10 we conceived finally.

My first did take the same amount of time though so it wasn’t a new feeling for me. However I’ve just found out I’m pregnant with number 3 and this pregnancy has come as a bit of a surprise to us.

Try and remember it’s very normal for perfectly healthy couples to take up to a year to conceive. I know it doesn’t help entirely when you’re in the midst of it though, so I’m sorry it’s making you feel so terrible.

I hope it’s your month soon! ❤️✨

Optimistic66 · 10/01/2024 09:20

Me too girl, me too.

Honestly so depressing - I've actually been trying for over a year and now have bit the bullet and gone private to investigate as that gap is getting so much bigger. It definitely not ideal and we're skipping a holiday this year but I cant mentally go through this every month.

I'm going private but hoping for 'Ovulation Induction' treatment - as ive been pregnant before dont know why its not happening now - part of me thinks I dont ovulate (been tracking BBT with no rise and had two day 21 tests) so hopefully it something that can be fixed.

I would definitely get the private testing done so you can try and get to the root cause but as previous poster said it can definitely take a year or so, it just frustrating living in this limbo.

P.S. i'm also 34, and turning 35 soon.

worldwidetravel2017 · 10/01/2024 10:03

Are u 35 or over ?
If so - it can often be investigated after 6 months

Have u used hertility health?
Hormone and fertility private tests?
I highly recommend

150 gbp - very well spent.

U can also transfer those results to your NHS records - so if they show any issue or potential issue - u can get help faster

worldwidetravel2017 · 10/01/2024 10:04

Do you def ovulate each month ?

Additionally - have u asked NHS 4 day 21 progesterone tests .
Do these 4 days after ovulation
4 @ least 2 diff months

Elisabeth3468 · 10/01/2024 12:35

Also ttc 2 and on the 8th month. When my period arrives this month we will be onto cycle 9. We do have known fertility issues though and first baby was IVF so not exactly a surprise. I had an early miscarriage in October so that gave me hope that it might happen naturally. But feels like false hope now to be honest.
Feel so deflated because was hoping I'd be pregnant by the time my son was 2 and he turned 2 last month.
Didn't even track this month because I didn't want to be all consumed by it,

I'm the same :( just started cycle 12 TTC following a TFMR this time last year and I have a son who is 2.
I'm going to get in touch with my GP if this cycle is another fail as that will have been 12 months actively trying. I'm worried they'll just say I need to lose weight though as my BMI is higher than it should be. Still hoping they might do some tests, although I'm wondering about just doing some private testing like Hertility?

My BMI is higher than should be - my GP referred me but fertility clinic said on NHS i wasn't eligible anyway due to DC1 so regardless i ended up going private.

So don't let it hold you back!

I had secondary infertility and decided not to go down the ivf route. It is very much personal choice but it was not for me. I gave everything away and settled into a family of 3. Then 6 years later, out of the blue i got pregnant. It is so hard to work through the emotions when nothing happens especially when everyone else around you is getting pregnant. I joked once that my friend would be on her third before i had a second and she actually had her 4th just before i had second ds!

Hi everyone,

We are the same. Our son has just turned 2. We'v been TTC around 12 months now. Not a hint of anything.

We fell pregnant quickly with our son, so I'm not sure how long we should keep trying.

I have been using ovulation sticks. Maybe I should start temping?

Is anyone taking any supplements?

butterfly245 · 10/01/2024 14:28

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences. Am relieved not to be the only one.
I’ve considered private but don’t even know where to begin. I’ve never heard of hertility I’ll look that up.
thank you again for making me feel not alone xx

DH and I tried for almost two years to conceive our second after conceiving our first very quickly. It was such an awful experience, I felt really stuck in the middle. I had a child so couldn't escape babies and pregnant women but at the same time wasn't really understood by those struggling to conceive their first. We booked IVF for the January and in the October prior I started going to a natural fertility practitioner for reflexology, massage, dietary advice, etc. The intention was to prepare my body for IVF, but I was pregnant naturally by mid November. May be worth looking into things like that? I found it really helped me psychologically to feel as if I was actively doing something to help the process.

Hi, how is everyone getting on? Any success stories?

We are still trying. I'm not ever sure how many cycles now, over a year with nothing. Our first only took a few months so wasn't expecting this.

Does anyone use multiple OPKs?

Iv been using strips and the clear blue digital!

The strips look positive to me, but the digital doesn't have a smile!
Iv also had EWCM for a few days so I'm not sure.

I'm on CD21 which is fairly normal for me.

Anyone had anything similar?

Hertility tests all came back clear, other than the suggestion that a pelvic ultrasound could help (reported that I get heavy periods). Period due in a week or so, will see what that brings.

37 here and TTC for about 7 months now with a MMC at 9 weeks along the way. I know it probably isn’t what you want to hear but the length of time you have been TTC is still very much within the realms of normal, uncomplicated, fertile couples. Supplements are a good idea, ‘it starts with the egg’ has lots of information. I understand the worries about an age gap, if it’s any consolation my first child is 10. There will be a huge age gap. They all have their pros and cons. Good luck x

24evergreen · 31/01/2024 20:05

I am also in the same boat. Early miscarriage in the summer and now into the 7th cycle. Feeling really down! Will look to get some private tests done if we're not successful this month.

Hi, would you recommend the Hertility test? Did you give you the reassurance you needed?

butterfly245 · 01/02/2024 09:21

I found it worth the £150 for the peace of mind as it does tell you in detail about hormone levels and quality and life of eggs-so I know there’s no issue of my eggs being too old or I’m heading towards early menopause. It suggested a pelvic ultrasound but the GP has investigate the heavy periods already.

so yes I feel better knowing that I still have time on my side. If it needs investigating later this year, we know it could be my partner.

it was all very quick and easy-but I didn’t collect the blood myself my partner did that I get woozy 🤣

After we had male factor fertility issues trying for our son (who took 15 months) we thought the second would be easier. No such luck. We started trying when my son was one year old and ended up having two missed miscarriages, IVF, another miscarriage and then, somehow, miraculously, conceived naturally in September 2023, 22 months after we started trying. I'm now 25 weeks and am 37 years old.

Sometimes it can be a long slog and the age gap between my children is going to be far greater than I planned, but I just wanted to say I hope you all get your miracles in the end as I know how rubbish it feels ❤

butterfly245 · 30/04/2024 19:39

So I finally got the positive result ❤️ we were heading into our 12th cycle so about to seek help, then it happened. Only four weeks so it’s early days, but got there in the end. Thank you so much for the support
