Can an elevated but "normal" TSH level cause issues conceiving?

I know that the upper threshold for TSH before meds are prescribed is 4.2mIU/L but I've read some things online that it should be below 2 in order to conceive and keep a pregnancy. Mine is 3.5.
Anyone conceived with TSH at that level? If not, how exactly do I convince a doc to prescribe me meds when technically TSH is within the normal range?

You can tell your doctor that you are try to conceive and they might give you a low dose. Its very easily corrected and might not even be necessary.

The main reason high tsh is an issue is that it can suppress ovulation and go undetected for a long time. Are you ovulating?

If your really worried you might want to get tested for thyroid antibodies to see if you have hasimotos or graves. Again, not a big deal for conceiving but might be useful to know.

The best person to answer that question is your doctor :)

Hey, I did conceive when my TSH level was higher than the optimal level. I have Hashimoto’s, so my TSH is up and down. I fell pregnant unexpectedly and wasn’t aware it should be a certain level for conception and also during pregnancy. I phoned my GP after I found out I was pregnant and she said my medication had to go up. DS is a healthy 3 year old! Good luck.

I think it depends. Mine was around the 5 mark for ages and they wouldn't treat, even though my antibodies were high too and hypothyroidism runs in my family. Sadly we ended up having 3 miscarriages and it was only when I really pressed it with the 4th miscarriage that they tested me at 6+6 and it had skyrocketed so they put me on thyroxine immediately and I had a healthy son.

With the best intentions, in my experience GPs are pretty useless with thyroid stuff and I was ignored for ages.
