Track ovulation or not?

Did anyone who didn’t track ovulation but dtd every other day not fall pregnant but then fell pregnant as soon as you started tracking?
Were onto our fourth month TTC which isn’t long at all in comparison to some people I know!
We’ve not been tracking and I have irregular periods so we just dtd roughly every other day which would think we’ve covered all days but obviously no success.
Is it worth tracking ovulation or not? And is there anything I can do to help?

I think tracking can be helpful & unhelpful, it’s great to pinpoint ovulation/know you are ovulating but it can also be a stress factor and pressure to have sex on specific days. I’ve been TTC my 2nd for 4 months using ovulation tests & not pregnant yet, been having sex around my ovulation and nothing, it’s unfortunately completely normal to do everything and it just not to work. Having sex every other day is perfect, frustratingly 4 months is within normal timing. Hope that helps!

It’s different for everyone - I’ve been tracking my cycle with BBT and OPKs for about 7 months now (been ttc for a year) and haven’t fallen pregnant, and yet I know plenty of people who don’t track and have. I decided to not track this month because I found I was obsessing about it and it was putting a lot of stress on me and my DH constantly trying to interpret everything, but equally if you have irregular cycles it’s really easy to miss your fertile window! It’s also helpful to have that information if you do need to see a doctor. Also agree with everything @Wonderpants3 has said!

Tracking can be great to help pinpoint when you ovulate but can also be gutting when you think you might be pregnant that month because you got the positive test.

I had the problem of becoming absolutely obsessed with testing and having so much sex to be then disappointed when I wasn’t pregnant that cycle, I’m now nearly 3 years into trying and I can’t imagine ever going back to testing (I found out a year ago I have PCOS so that is a massive factor in me not getting pregnant)

It’s honestly just not for everyone, it may work out for you and there’s absolutely no harm in trying!

Good luck!x

@hopingforapeainapod I fell pregnant straight away with my daughter 3 years ago so I suppose I just expected the same but that not how life goes! I’ve been to the doctor and had blood test and ultrasound just waiting on a gynocologist appointment. So maybe it’s good to track my ovulation so when I do get my appointment through I can tell him/her. But then like you said it’s hard to to get obsessed over it I bet.
good luck to you !

@Chlo1995 I feel a bit like that and I’m not even tracking when you have sex so much you think you’ve covered it all then get that negative test.
how did you find out you had pcos if you don’t mind me asking? X

@Lauren8642 With my first baby it took 3 cycles. The first two, I didn't track, just had sex during the fertile period that my app predicted. I started tracking on cycle 3 and it turns out I was ovulating at a different time to when the app predicted. Not a huge difference, a couple of days or so but I did get pregnant that cycle.

Lauren8642 · 03/01/2024 09:10

@Daisyrobin123 did you dtd everyday then in your fertile window?

@Lauren8642 it’s honestly just painful, thinking you’ve done enough to only be disheartened by getting your period!

I found out through our fertility clinic, I’d gone to the GP after 18 months of trying and they referred me, I had a feeling there may have been something as I can have extremely painful periods but they’re also pretty regular so I wasn’t expecting pcos😂 I had an internal scan which literally showed all the follicles, they were so large and there was so many I was horrified.

I constantly just feel devastated, I had thought I might’ve been pregnant last month as I had strange symptoms I never had before a period before, just for my period to show up days later. I dunno who thought ttc was fun because I’m seriously not having fun😂😂

I hope you get some good news soon!🤞🏼x

@Lauren8642 When I got pregnant last time yes, every day! It was exhausting but it worked.

Tried it last month for cycle 1 and it didn't work so gone for every other day this time.

Daisies12 · 05/01/2024 10:05

We had a few months not tracking, then the first month I tracked, I got pregnant. But i do think it's important not to obsess too much! I only test from around CD 11 until I get a peak. It helped me find out I peak around CD 18, whereas I'd assume CD 14 from the app.

@Daisies12 sorry if this is tmi but did you dtd differently then aswell as it how many days/ how often? Once you knew your correct ovulation date? Or was it just make sure you dtd on that day?
