Colposcopy & TTC

Hi all

Forgive me if this is longwinded.

I'm 37 and I came off contraception at end of September with the intention of beginning TTC #1 in January, have been taking vitamins and monitoring ovulation to get a picture of my cycle.

I attended a cervical check appt in November and nurse stated everything looked good but with the caveat that she cannot tell whats happening on a cellular level. Fast forward to 14 or so days later and have a letter in the post that I am HPV positive and have they have then testing my cells which have some abnormal changes so I've been refered to Colposcopy on first week of Jan, just after I finish my period.

I'm not worried about the scope or the treatment (excluding worst case scenario, don't want to entertain that thought) that may be necessary, Im more concerned if TTC will be delayed 6 months.
Im wishing the days away at the moment.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? Any insight would be really appreciated.

@Anitamartini well done for getting through it, that's great they found a lower grade. Did they say if it is confirmed to be CIN 1 they'll just put you in for another smear in 6/12 months or would they recall you back for treatment? Did they say how long it would take for your results? Hope you're feeling more at ease and can continue to plan TTC 😊 I've managed to get a cancellation for next week so will keep you updated 🤞. I'll probably do the same about not being told when they're doing the anaesthetic/biopsy as I'd tense too!!

@J3llycat ah that's great you'll get in a bit earlier. They said they'll wait for biopsy result and multi disciplinary team to decide but likely be called back again in a few months to review, they won't treat unless Cin 2 or Cin 3.
They said 4 weeks for results.
Definitely feel much more relived but not totally out if the woods yet, even if I was called back for treatment dont think I'd be half as worried as I was with the unknown.
Keep me posted on how you get on, try not to fret too much 💐

@Anitamartini thanks so much for your advice, got my fingers and toes crossed for you 💞

All went well today, they confirmed CIN1 without the biopsy (as she was very confident this is what the biopsy would say anyway) and said I'll be asked back in a year and I need to reduce my stress to help fight it. Extremely relieved although was a bit terrified throughout the whole experience. Nurses were a dream. Mild cramps after despite not having a biopsy but have eased now, a bit like a longer smear as everyone else has said! Was weird seeing the cervix that close up 🤣

Hey @J3llycat

I'm delighted to hear everything went well and it wasn't too bad an experience for you, plus it's a bonus to not have the biopsy/treatment.
I hope the cramps will be gone by tomorrow , mine didn't last long, although starting to feel ovulation cramps, the joys of being a woman eh 😉

It's mad isnt it, I wouldn't be that quesy but I wasn't prepared to look at that first thing in the morning 😂

I’ve just come back from my appointment! They said they couldn’t see anything on mine and didn’t require a biopsy. Feeling so relieved! They were lovely as well.
