..45 😊

We have been TTC number 2 for 2 years now.

Had DD1 at 40. Took only 7 months TC.

Delayed trying due to covid....various things. Now absolutely know time has run out but we persist.

Just hoping for some positive stories so be kind. I may have already accepted we have one beautiful child and that's fine.

Reaching out so I don't feel alone.

Not me, but a cousin at 44 and DH's cousin also at 44! One was her 1st after many MC's, the other was a 2nd pregnancy and 22yrs apart with 2nd husband. They both paid for the NIPT early on. Best of luck.

Thank you. Did they conceive naturally? Or IVF?

We aren't going down IVF route so this are very very last chance.

1 was natural and the other, I'm not sure. The one I don't know much about is because she lives abroad and we aren't that close. Her daughter was premi and needed special care, but caught up and is about 12 now.

My mum had my youngest sibling naturally at 43. The (3rd) child prior she had at 33.

Not quite 45, but still up there in age. She was a midwife so I clearly remember her being concerned about the pregnancy carrying healthily to full term and my sibling having abnormalities. Given her line of work she'd of course.

The Welsh presenter Alex Jones, who incidentally made two documentaries pertaining to fertility, had her 3rd child at 45 I believe. After having her first 2 months shy of 40.

Point being it is of course very much possible. But the sad caveat is that these instances are the 5%. Chances at 45 are quite slim even before you factor in fetal abnormal and miscarriages.

In any case, I hope you fall into the lucky category and conceive / birth another child. Best of luck

Speaking for myself, I was well into perimenopause at 45 with very erratic periods and don't think I'd have been able to get pregnant.

However, I have three friends plus a cousin who all conceived without assistance at 44 or 45. Three were having their second babies, having had their first in their early 40s, and one had her first (and only) at 44.

I hope it all works out for you.

Hey OP. There's always a chance but obviously it's very slim. I had a baby this year at 42 after trying for my second for 6 years but I had my first at 34. It was a miracle because I had low amh and adenomyosis. Completely unexpected positive test at 41. No IVF. I know that in the hospital, they said they had one mum of 48. It's not impossible but by 45 most women are pretty much infertile.

My mum had a miscarriage at 43, then my baby sister came along when she was 44. Both naturally conceived

Hi @theleavesfall24 I'm 44 and pregnant, very early days (5 weeks) have had MC's along this long ass TCC journey. Praying this one sticks and all is okay. My MW and the ladies on EPU were always quick to dismiss when I mentioned my age and always have lots of positive stories (even my MW had had a child at 42 & 44)

I personally would recommend DTD three days prior and on the day of ovulation, I can get pregnant and this seems to work for us, though I appreciate everyone is different, it's just getting one to stick around past week 9 that's the issue.

Sending lots of luck!! 🤞🏼🥰

Mumaway · 30/12/2023 10:24

45 is not so unusual, especially in higher levels of education where people delay childbearing.
I have a good friend who was really troubled by her menopause symptoms at 53, they came on quite suddenly and she was gaining weight..... but only for 9months😬

theleavesfall24 · 31/12/2023 00:36

@Mumaway @MudandMoet these are positive stories! It's funny how the MW always seem to cut through with the truth 😀
You get labelled geriatric mother after 35 and the MW are like "nah there's much older mums them that!".

My cycles are pretty regular still. 24/25 days which I thought were very short on comparison.
We kind of DTD on days 9, 12 maybe 14 and much later at 16/18.
Maybe it's not enough DTD!

I fell pregnant (naturally) with DC2 at 44, delivered at 45. We'd been trying for a few years (had DC1 just before I turned 40, never went back on contraception) so had a fertility check up a few months before falling pregnant with DC2. Usually women my age have a 5% chance of conception I think it was but I was only given a 1-2% chance of conceiving naturally (IVF was never a consideration-we couldn't afford it). DC2 is now a healthy toddler. A colleague of mine had her second at 43 after 5 years of trying. Best of luck - don't give up!

MudandMoet · 31/12/2023 09:19

@theleavesfall24 there's some great positive stories it's lovely to read and I agree the MW does seem to cut through a lot of the shit about more mature pregnancies.

I think it sounds like you've DTD plenty at that! 😂 you can overdo it I think and it reduces the quality of the sperm, are you tracking with an OPK? I didn't this month I got caught but I have bad ovulation pains so knew when it was happening. Keep us posted!
