London Womens Clinic - reliable??

Hi everyone

just wondering if many people have used London womens clinic for any fertility investigation and their experience with it??

I’ve been referred from my GP to an nhs funded fertility centre in august but still on the waiting list. We’ve been trying to conceive over a year so I wanted to investigate what I could. We booked an initial consultation which included a trans vaginal ultrasound. I’m confused as the doctor first said that he wasn’t concerned about much but then went on to tell me one of my ovaries was small and was I sure that there was no early menopause history in the family. He strongly suggested an AMH which I’m waiting on the results for. He also said there was a significant amount of fluid in my pelvis which could be the remnants of an old infection and that he was worried mt fallopian tubes were blocked and suggested runnning a quite expensive test for that.

basically, I’ve come away feeling very confused and Wondering whether or not there really is something wrong or if there wasn’t much wrong and this is them trying to make a bit more money from me? maybe that’s just my pessimistic personality!

I just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences who could help me out my mind at rest. Sorry for the long post!

My husband and I used London women's clinic for fertility investigation, we had our testing done 3 weeks ago (pelvic ultrasound, AMH, sperm check) and call with the doctor last week to discuss results. We weren't happy with the clinic and will be looking to go elsewhere is the short of it, happy to share our experience below:

Our niggling concern from the beginning was the poor communication we received by email, from confirmation of appointment to the follow ups it was really poor in terms of response time and communication. For example, we had to chase for a payment receipt 5 times, each time we were told they would chase the finance team for it, until I called up the 5th time and the (helpful and lovely) receptionist was able to send it to me right away. It just made us feel like the admin staff were too lazy to reply to us in the previous instances.

Despite this we decided to proceed with testing because we figured should give benefit of the doubt and it won't be the admin staff doing the medical procedures.

What followed was a call with the doctor explaining our test results. Main comment here is its disappointing we couldn't have the meeting face to face or video call, the call was over speakerphone so it did make hearing her quite difficult. We were told we can't do IVF or ICSI with our results, which came as a shock as I knew our results were not optimal but not awful (My AMH levels are 3.9 and was only showing 7 follicles in one ovary and no follicles in other ovary), while my husband has 0% morphology, but all other markers were very good. We came away sad, but no negative feeling towards the doctor who we felt had "good bedside manner", she recommended we see a urologist and at the time of the call said the admin team would send us recommendations of urologists for further investigation. Trusting her medical opinion, we appreciated at the time we weren't being told yes you can have this procedure and it will cost this much...

What happened next really cemented the experience and left us feeling we do not want to go back to this clinic, it took 3 days for them to send us the report and we received an email from the admin team saying the doctor we spoke to had recommended my husband freeze his sperm, this was confusing as this was not discussed with us on the call and we could not understand why we need to freeze the sperm when we've been told we can't use my husbands sperm for IVF or ICSI. We were also sent an email about a provisional appointment to speak to another doctor (Obs & gynae doctor) the clinic another cost of £350, this was instead of the urologist recommendations we asked for. Given the recommendation at the time was to speak to a urologist, why would they ask us to speak to an obs & gynae doctor at their clinic - our thoughts were are they just trying to feed on our desperation and unnecessary appointments.

My husband saw the urologist at a different clinic, and has been recommended for an ultrasound, but the urologist said it was his medical opinion our results were not impossible to do ICSI and was surprised we were told as such.

We went with London women's clinic as we saw a good number of positive reviews and wanted to start our IVF journey after 2 years of infertility, sadly our experience has been negative so I'm afraid we wouldn't recommend. Wishing you all the luck in your journey, happy to respond if you have any more questions on this x

We used London Women’s Clinic to have IVF and overall it was a positive experience.

The admin and medical staff were all absolutely lovely, and we are currently expecting baby no1 on our second attempt.

My one complaint would be to do with the financial side of things. When we started I asked for a detailed breakdown of every possible associated cost, they sent me one that ended up being a LOT (7k) less than what it actually cost us (not including second transfer & medication). They also sent me a quote for a second transfer the same day they told me I had a blighted ovum and that my first pregnancy was non viable, in the same breath as telling me I should stay on the meds I was on (and buy a further £500 of medication).

I think if I was to do it again from the beginning I would choose a different clinic, but they currently are storing our remaining embryos, so if we want to try for a second we will be going back to them.

Good luck on your journey!
