Can transvaginal ultrasound affect conception?

I was booked by my GP for a transvaginal ultrasound, in her words, to put my mind at rest about things due to my anxiety, following some different menstrual symptoms from what I was used to since my MMC and surgical management. GP advised for me to cancel the appointment if I fell pregnant in meantime (which suggested to me there was no issue with me still trying to conceive). My anxiety for my second period after my surgical management was sky high worrying about things (worried about ashermans and other complications even though gynaecologist advised my procedure was very short and straightforward and would take a couple of months for hormones to settle). I do struggle with anxiety which I get counselling for. My third period however felt more normal and gave me some confidence that my hormones were finally settling.

Anyway, the ultrasound is this Friday. I will be right in the middle of my cycle and we are actively TTC with the sperm meets egg method. My Flo app shows that I’m due to ovulate Friday and I am tracking ovulation. I am really worried that the lubricant used for the transvaginal scan would affect our chances this month in terms of sperm mobility and it’s putting me off having the scan.

Has anyone else had a mid-cycle scan when trying to conceive, and did it affect chances at all?

I’m sure wiser people will be along than me. However I had clomid for several cycles and IUI for 3 cycles, all of which required mid cycle transvaginal scanning (some cycles several times to monitor follicle development) and this is normal practice as far as I know, so I doubt it would in any way be prohibitive to conception as they were aiding the opposite?

Short answer: no.

Long answer is based on how ultrasounds work which is widely accessible online.

So it sounds like it's the lubricant you're worried about rather than the actual ultrasound?

Lubricants don't inhibit sperm unless they contain spermicide so you'll be fine. The conception ones are specially formulated to try to aid sperm, but regular ones aren't a hindrance in any way, they just don't have any benefit.

Plenty of people use lubricants when trying to conceive/having sex with no issues.

It doesn’t affect conception at all. They don’t use spermicidal lubricants.
