Hi, just started ttc, first time. Me and partner are 36. Embarrassingly I'm confused about ovulation testing and finding it all very overwhelming. Have looked online a lot and have the tests, but still overwhelmed! I know it sounds ignorant, given my grand age! I can tell from my body when ovulating but still finding it hard to interpret tests or when is best time. I have pcos and a semi irregular cycle, that is to say that I have a period each month, but ranging from a 24 to a 38 day cycle. Also have become quite obsessed now and a bit emotional with it all. Just looking for some support I guess. X

Hey @Alee36 thank you so much for sharing your story - I am also 36, TTC for the first time and have PCOS and irregular cycles!

I’ve bought a box of cheap boots OPKs and clear blue for later.

my question is, are the LH surges still reliable with PCOS? Or are they almost irrelevant and the surge isn’t linked to ovulation in our case? I’ve not really found any clear guidance online 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hiya! Thanks for replying and nice to know I'm not alone! My understanding is that we have increased levels of LH anyway so it makes it harder to detect a surge. For example, I'm consistently getting positive ovulation test results all through the month, all with the same colour line, that is to say not darker, nor lighter at any point to give an indication of a window- just constant. This means I'm testing in conjunction with period tracker, but again, tricky, as my periods aren't clockwork regular. I do experience ovulation pain/symptoms, but also regularly experience ovarian pain and twinges anyway, on account of the PCOS, so it feels quite overwhelming to get a handle on! Are you experiencing the same issues? I'm currently using momMed strips and will buy CB soon, for next cycle. Are you in your first cycle of trying or do you have periods regularly enough to determine cycle? Apologies for all the questions! Wishing you so much luck 💗
