Hello, ttc cycle #10. GP has increased my Metformin to 2000mg a day. The 1000mg tablets are massive! I'm currently taking one at night but need to up it. Anyone on the same dose? Do you take 2000mg in one go or AM and PM or something different? Like alot of us I'm so desperate to get pregnant. Anything else you've tried to help you conceive/ovulate with pcos? Thanks x

I would not take 2000mg in one go. I would suggest am and pm. Is this standard release or slow release?
You don't want to take too much metformin in one go. Besides the effects this may have on your glucose , you could end up on the toilet. Slow and steady.

Unfortunately metformin didn't help me get pregnant. I tried clomid that didn't help either.
I'm currently 5 weeks via ivf

Hi! I take 500mg 3x a day with meals. My cycle is still not regular but without the metformin I had no periods at all. We are just about to start our TTC journey so not sure what’s in store for me yet, but also keen to hear how people get on with metformin/PCOS!

Mrgrinch · 19/11/2023 16:40

I was taking these at the start of the year and always felt like I was choking them down, no idea why they're so big! I split my dose I think I took 2 in the morning and 1 in the evening.

I have pcos and fell pregnant on a combo of clomiphene and Metformin. I miscarried and then fell immediately pregnant again without a period in-between, whilst not on any medication x

I used to be on 3g so I took one tablet with breakfast, one with lunch, one with dinner. I did used to take them all in one go until someone told me to spread the dose out. Make sure you've got the slow release one. If you struggle to swallow them you could cut them in half (knife or pill splitter).

Butterfly2000 · 19/11/2023 17:33

Thank you ladies x I have the slow release. I'll try one with breakfast and one with dinner.
@MoonIightDreamer I had been reticent to take 2 in one go but the gp prescribed 2 with dinner. I will try AM and PM and see how I get on. I think 1g in the daytime made me nauseous last week but will try again this week.
@seven201 3g! How was that for you? I don't think mine will be increased. Which is fine, I'm having periods anyway.
@Mrgrinch Agreee I don't know why they're so big. I've still got some 500mg left but then wasn't always great at remembering to take 4 and I just don't like taking pills. Will just have to suck it up one way or another!
I have got some weight to lose and need to look after myself, sleep etc but really hoping Metformin will do something too. Baby dust for us all! Happy to keep in touch. This ttc is a lonely hard journey x

@Butterfly2000 it was increased to 3g as part of recurrent miscarriage treatment for me. My periods were regularish without. I my wasn't gentle on the tummy and I would recommend increasing and decreasing slowly as I once had to stop abruptly and the constipation was horrendous Blush. I should add I now have a newborn baby, so no regrets here.

Butterfly2000 · 19/11/2023 18:56

Aww congrats! @seven201 Really pleased for you x
Sorry about your mc's. I've never heard of metformin being used for recurrent mc treatment. That's interesting. Missed doses of metformin might explain some of the horrendous constipation I've had! I must do better and be consistent with iy

Hello! I am also on 2000mg of Metformin. The tablets are massive aren’t they! We’re also cycle 10 ttc. I’ve been taking 2000mg since May. I usually take 1 after breakfast (or lunch if I forget) and then one at night after dinner.

CrispAppleStrudels · 19/11/2023 20:59

Are they not 500mg tablets? When i was on 2000mg a day, it was 2 x tablets at breakfast and 2 x tablets at dinner. Maybe ask to switch to those instead?

For DD1, metformin wasn't enough and i ended up doing 3 rounds of letrozole to conceive her. For DC2 (currently pregnant), i was on 2000mg of metformin and i also lost over 10% of my body weight by following a very low carb / low calorie diet. This baby was conceived naturally.
