Varying TSH levels

Hi all, just looking for some advice.

I had a blood test last month and all was fine apart from my thyroid TSH was 4.1 so 0.1 over the usual guidelines, but way above those for anyone trying for a baby or so I’ve read. T4 is within normal range.

I spoke to a Dr who confirmed they could put me on medication but wanted to do a repeat blood test first, I had this and my TSH is now 3.0 and T4 has increased a little but well within normal range.

I know the Dr won’t put me on medication with a 3.0 level, but I was just wondering if it’s normal for it to vary quite significantly within 3-4 weeks? I’m a little worried it could just go back up and I’d now be none the wiser as the doctors won’t just carry on testing me for no reason, understandably.

I had a miscarriage a few months ago and really do not want to go through that again. For reference in blood tests I’ve had in previous years my TSH as been between 1-2.

Hey, I’ve had quite varying TSH levels too. NHS do not seem clued up at all on what TSH should be for people trying to conceive. They seem to think if it’s within normal range then that’s fine, despite it being pretty well known that TSH levels should be under 2.5 when ttc. I don’t have much advice but you can get a TSH testing kit from Boots for about 12 quid I think. I haven’t actually used one but it might be one way to check yourself how much they vary.

TSH is highest first thing in the morning so you want the blood test done as early as poss and fasting (you can drink water but no food or other drinks).
