Newfoundland at home sperm test

Hey!

Has anyone got any experience with the Newfoundland at home sperm test, we got ours from Tesco.

We’ve been trying for 11 months now with no luck so did the test last night, it came back abnormal, not even a hint of a line on the test side.

I’ve read a few mixed reviews but there’s not many reviews so I just wanted to see if anyone else has used these and they’ve been wrong.

Would you book a doctors appointment now?

Hoping the test is wrong but we’re obviously both feeling very deflated 😔

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. I only came across this because we are in the exact same boat - same test from Tesco - ours also came back as abnormal.
It has been really stressing us out too. Although I am trying to remain positive because I have seen a lot of cases where people have had abnormal at home tests and gone on to conceive.
We haven't been trying for very long but are planning to get a private semen analysis done if we do have extended issues TTC.

How have you been doing since? I believe at 12 months TTC you can see your GP on the NHS and get analysis done for both of you properly - hopefully this would actually look at it properly and looks at a lot more than just count.

I am sending all luck for you.

Just wanted to say we were in the same boat, result came back as abnormal and it really stressed us out. We weren’t long into TTC so decided to keep trying and would investigate further in the future if needed. We both cut caffeine and alcohol. I’m now pregnant. Take the result with a pinch of salt, I don’t know how something so basic can be accurate!

Hi @kalixxx I would say take the result with a massive pinch of salt and go see the doctor and ask for a proper semen analysis - Newfoundland only analyses sperm count but there’s other factors to consider such as sperm motility and morphology. I’ve also read lots of mixed reviews online about the accuracy of these tests and a friend of mine did it and got an abnormal result but then went to a fertility expert and everything was fine so it caused them a lot of unnecessary stress. I think unfortunately a lot of companies exploit people’s desperation and sell products that aren’t always 100% reliable or only give a very limited picture - that has been my experience anyway!

Haven't read the post or the replies but PLEASE IGNORE these stupid tests. They just don't tell an accurate story.

Honestly.

I don't think they should even be allowed to be sold.

I saw an at home 'iron deficiency' test the other day... ridiculous.

@MrsHousePlant I’m so glad to hear this, makes me feel less stressed. We thought it would be reassuring but it’s been the complete opposite.
congratulations on your pregnancy!
