So basically I've been trying to conceive 2 years I've a very regular 28 day cycle ovulating every month, partners SA is all good, had some fertility help scan trigger shots clomid etc never once getting a BFP anyway today I've been told my AMH is at 3 I'm only 30 I've a very healthy lifestyle so my question is has any fell pregnant naturally after a low AMH or did you get IVF also how quickly did AMH diminish? My fertility consultant advised me to start IVF asap I just thought I'd never have to go down this road of infertility

Hi @Cloclo93

I hope you’re keeping ok - sounds like this has been a real shock for you!

Unfortunately, I can’t really offer any advice however I’m in a similar situation in terms of the length of TTC, age, partner being all ok… I’m due to have a 2-4 blood test which I believe is to test my AMH levels - is that what you had or did you have something more investigative?

I’ve been referred on for IVF - on the basis that everything else seems normal however unsure if I’ll have any further treatment first (you mentioned trigger shots & clomid)… my consultant just said it would be 26 weeks roughly (to what she said would be IVF).

Out of curiosity, what is deemed a good AMH level vs a score of 3? And where would they expect you to be at your age?

I’m sure others will comment with some actual experience and advice, so I’m just commenting to ask a few qs and help keep the post at the top of the feed for visibility x

Hi @Cloclo93 @Yolo23

Hope you’re both okay.

im a very similar position to you @Cloclo93 however my gynaecologist has asked me to stay positive because ‘all it takes is one good egg’. So the number of eggs is less relevant compared to the quality of those eggs. and at your age, the quality is likely to be relatively good.

She also told me of an incident where one of her patients who was 24 had a VERY low AMH conceived naturally within months.

having said that, I am 36 and have saved up for IVF so we have decided to go down that path as didn’t want to wait any longer. We are planning to go with Create who do mild IVF which isn’t as intensive on the body.

praying for you both and sending lots of hugs.

watching this post intently for any more insights :) x

Hi @Yolo23 the more I read about amh I don't think it really matter in trying to conceive I found this article which was quite reassuring
https://www.smh.com.au/national/how-the-egg-timer-test-falsely-feeds-women-s-fertility-anxieties-20190104-p50ppb.html#:~:text=Research%20shows%20the%20contraceptive%20pill,stable%20throughout%20a%20woman%27s%20cycle.
Apparently women age 30 there amh should be between 6 and 47.
I'm going to get a HSG next month to see if my tubes are open I also heard pregnancy rates jump up 25% after a HSG because it flushes any gunk out of your tubes! So that's worth a try :) if all that fails I'd probably try iui. My consultant also said I should be doing IVF asap ivf is just very expensive right now it would be something we would do the end of next year.
@Maria12060 you are excataly right in the quality over quantity my nurse told me she had told a women her amh was extremely low the girls was in tears but it turned out she was actually pregnant!
Goodluck on your IVF journey ✨️ xx

How the 'egg timer' test falsely feeds women's fertility anxieties

Women anxious about their ticking clocks are being led to believe that a flawed test can predict their ability to have a baby.

@Cloclo93 @Maria12060 ahhh that’s such lovely info and it sounds really positive!!

I completely agree that it’s all about the quality of one egg vs 20 bad eggs… we’re on the waiting list for IVF which will be in the next 5 months - fortunately we’re funded so I don’t have to worry about cost but my saying is always ‘third time lucky’ so I’ve accepted the fact that after 2 funded cycles, we will have to do a third before calling it a day 😅

You both sound so lovely and I’d also love to hear any updates you have - fingers crossed for some positive news 🥰 xx

sammc21 · 14/10/2023 06:10

Heyyyyy

im 36 and I’ve literally got the same AMH as you it’s 3!!! I got the news 6 weeks ago and it’s been horrible to deal with but my fertility clinic told me to read the book ‘it starts with the egg’ and I feel so much more at peace with everything!

im funded too so I have two tries at IVF, the doctor told me it’s a possibility it might not even work but I’ll kick myself if I don’t try! - I have read though they measure AMH just for ivf purposes and we just need to make sure that our eggs are in good condition, so I’m praying that we can get them good and can conceive naturally 🙏🙏

good luck with everything, it feels like such a rollercoaster at the moment doesn’t it x

Maria12060 · 15/10/2023 11:45

Heyy @sammc21

that’s exactly right - you just need ONE egg and it’s quality over quantity! :)

also - stress levels play a HUGE role in IVF success and how our hormones behave so going in with a positive mindset and trying to relieve the stress is sooo important - I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better re: the chances.

got my fingers and toes crossed for all us IVF sisters 👯‍♀️ xx

I don’t know if this is helpful to you but I remember how devastated I felt when I was told I had low ovarian reserve and how I trawled Mumsnet for reassurance from people. I decided if I could ever be a positive story for someone, I would.
At 33 I was diagnosed with low ovarian reserve at 3.8 pmol. I was so so upset and having tried for six months we were referred to a fertility doctor. They wanted us to start on fertility treatments straight away, the doctor said to me “you have the same amount of eggs as a 40 year old” which shook me and then told us if we wanted more than one child we should also try and freeze some embryos.
The week after that appointment we found out we were pregnant. That was about the ninth cycle of us doing targeted trying.
Fast forward to my DS being 19 months old, me at 35 nearly 36 and still breastfeeding, my periods only having come back 2 months before and being extremely light and only 21 days apart, we conceived again. I assume my AMH is now lower than 3.8. I’m now 20 weeks pregnant.
Anyway my experience has made me realise that AMH isn’t everything and it really is one piece of the puzzle. I appreciate our situations are very different as you have been trying for a lit longer and I can only imagine how hard that must be, I struggled with trying to conceive for nine months which in the grand scheme of things wasn’t even that long but even that short period of time felt like forever for me.
Anyway I hope this gives you some comfort and I really wish you all the best in your journey x

Thank you so much @KimberleyT7
this means so much
thank you for sharing your story

orzo15 · 29/01/2024 13:01

I had an AMH of 1.7 just before i turned 31 (found during tests for other things), i got pregnant naturally two months after that, sadly ended in mmc at 13 weeks. I took a break from trying, then after 5 months (so a year since last pregnancy) i got pregnant again and am 11 weeks. My 12 week scan is this week so i don't know if everything is ok yet but I have extremely low amh for my age and its never stopped me getting pregnant

Livingmagicallyagain · 29/01/2024 19:05

AMH of 1.1 but fell pregnant twice, first try, within 4 years, both pregnancies perfect!

Have you had your TSH checked? It should be comfortably under 3 (my doctor preferred under 2.5). It can cause significant fertility issues if not.

Livingmagicallyagain · 29/01/2024 19:08

That’s in pmol by the way. So very low.

I was late 30s/early 40s.

Maria12060 · 29/01/2024 21:17

Thank you @orzo15 @Livingmagicallyagain for the words of reassurance
genuinely mean a lot when this journey feels quite lonely x x

Hi everyone I'm actually the Original poster got locked out of my account 🙃
Since that post I've done 2 rounds of ivf, 1 conventional got 4 eggs all failed to fertilized and 1ICSI got 2 eggs 1 died at day 4 and 1 made it to day 6 it was a 5CC so very bad quality and was thrown out 😢
Turns out my egg quality is bad which came as a shock as I'm young and healthy! The doctors are saying sometimes when you have low amh it can make your eggs bad 🤔 but all of yer stories are showing that's not entirely ture!❤️
I've reached out to a few clinics abroad that recommended I do natural ivf which won't worsening my egg quality if it was the high stims destroying them 🙄
Still no luck with ttc naturally for me xx
