Long cycles and pregnancy help

I’m very lucky that I already have a little boy but I’m still so confused, even though I’ve done this before. I have long (mostly irregular) cycles and wondering if I should be testing for pregnancy later than a ‘normal‘ 28 day cycle?? Anyone with long cycles have any knowledge?

When I was TTC my first I came off the pill and my cycles were all over the place like 54 days then 62 then 42 etc etc. I called the GP and was referred for an ultrasound on my ovaries in case of polycystic ovaries or something like that. I started taking Conceive Plus Ovulation Support on a whim and that was the month I fell pregnant! Unsure if it was related or because that month I was more relaxed or something but now that I am 13 months postpartum my cycles are regular 31 days and I'm TTC number 2.

@HRHXO

Thanks- I'll try that. I've always been very irregular and long but more so after my son who is also 16 months!

You need to do a pregnancy test 10-14 days after you ovulate. So you need to figure out when you ovulate either through urine tests, bbt or learning your symptoms.

As long as you ovulate normally, then the gap between ovulation and your period will not vary much, it’s the bit before you ovulate that can be hugely different.

my cycles are between 37-100 days long

@Headchecked thank you. I have a clear blue monitor and got two peaks so think I ovulated 11 days ago

Bear in mind that ovulation tests only show you if your LH peaked, not if you ovulated. The only way to know if you ovulated is to measure your temperature.

If you are anything like me then you may have a number of LH peaks as your body tries to ovulate but not release an egg every time (hence the cycle being long).

if in doubt use bbt - the release of an egg causes hormonal changes which cause your temperature to increase.

good luck!
