12 months + TTC, how does your first GP appt work?

Couldn’t figure how to work the subject 😅

Basically I’d like to know if me and OH attend the appointment together? We’re registered with different GPS so would we actually need to make separate appointments with our own GPs?

We’re on cycle 10 TTC #1, I’m losing faith that it’s going to happen anytime soon so gearing myself up to see the GP in a couple of months!

Go on your own and then they'll request baseline tests for you (usually blood tests) and get your partner to book a semen analysis. The referral usually goes through the woman and then they marry up the details at the fertility clinic.
Can take up to 12 months to conceive though so don't give up hope yet. Lots of people it takes up to a year. Unfortunately for us it didn't happen and we had ivf. Trying to conceive our second now. X

Have you had feretin - b12 - vit D checked before starting TTC ?
Those are v important

Are you both under 35?

Gardenlady543 · 03/10/2023 13:42

@kalixxx me and my husband are under different gps as well, I spoke to my gp who arranged bloods at the start of the cycle (between cycle day 2-5) and day 21 progesterone. My husband was referred for a semen analysis through his GP. Due to my age I couldn't be referred on the NHS as you need to try for 2 years in my area before your 36th birthday, but 1 year after, and I was in the inbetween stage where I'd have to try for an extra year even though by that time I would have only needed to have try for 1 year. So we took the results and went to a private clinic who arranged a transvagjnal ultrasound scan for me and talked through out options, if you wouldn't meet the criteria for an NHS referral then you may want to do a his and her assessment through a local fertility clinic, it will cost about £500.

@Swirls346 thank you!! I’m trying to keep faith that it will still happen without the need for a GP visit but the months keep rolling by with BFNs ☹️

Good luck with TTC your 2nd! Will you try naturally first?

@worldwidetravel2017 we’re 27 & 28 so age should be in our favour! I have had a blood test recently although I’m not sure if they checked those, it was a full blood count, maybe I’ll ask the GP if those were checked!

@Gardenlady543 thank you that’s super helpful!! I had no idea there were differences in areas to how long you had to be TTC for before going through the NHS. I hope mines only a year! I think I’d do the same and pay to go private.

Full blood count doesnt include feretin - b12 & vit D

Def age on your side though

Hertility health are a private hormone and fertility testing company - 150 gbp v well spent
Highly recommemd them

kalixxx · 05/10/2023 13:05

@worldwidetravel2017 ahh ok, that’s good to know!

I keep seeing hertiality pop up but have been a bit sceptical if they’re legit, admittedly I’ve not actually looked into them. Tempted to give them a go now!

Def legit

Muddysocks1 · 05/10/2023 13:24

Hertility are definitely legit and they’re pretty quick too! You do need to test on day 3 I think of your cycle just to bear in mind if that’s coming up for you 😊
