Chemical pregnancy

Hi everyone, sorry if this seems insensitive to those who have been through a chemical pregnancy, this is not the way I want it to come across at all. I previously had a chemical back in June but wasn’t a POAS addict like I am now. I received my first very very faint positive at 8DPO in the late afternoon, from then on the tests have slightly gotten darker each day and I am now 14DPO. However, I am so scared of having another chemical. I found out about my last pregnancy the day I was due my period and didn’t take any more tests until I felt something wasn’t right (3 days after) and the line had faded.

Basically what I’d like to know is, if you have been through a chemical pregnancy, when did your tests start becoming lighter? Did they go darker up until a certain point then gradually go lighter or were they always light? Would be so grateful to hear everyone’s stories. Thank you.

@LW678 I had one last month. I didn't test until AF due (14dpo). It was fairly light but my previous ones have been similar so I wasn't too worried. However, I tested again 18dpo and it looked the same. Which rang a warning bell for me. The next day I did a digital which came back 'not pregnant' and then I started bleeding the day after. Blood test at docs the day after I started bleeding confirmed I'd had a really early loss.

So, for me, because I suspect I am someone with fairly low baseline HCG, light tests around 14/15dpo don't worry me (I'm not even sure I'd get a positive at all before AF due) but lack of progression a few days later was a clear sign.

For context, I've had one successful pregnancy and before the CP I had a MMC earlier in the year at 11+4 but test progression for that one in the early days was like with my son.

Hope this one works out for you! 🤞🏻🌈

Sorry to hear about your losses. It’s so tough and does such bad things for our mental health. I hope you’re ok and go on to have another successful pregnancy.

I am so unbelievably anxious that any minute my tests are going to suddenly stop progressing and start fading. I’ve attached a photo of my tests so far, I wish I could know the likelihood of the tests declining after this point.

I had one the month before I got pregnant with my son. I started testing positive early (almost invisible line at 7DPO) and the lines gradually got darker. I started bleeding and it wasn't until after that point that the lines began to fade.

If it helps, that miscarriage was last year in June. The following cycle we successfully conceived again and, although I experienced more bright red bleeding during that pregnancy, it all worked out! My youngest DS arrived back in May and is now a happy, healthy 4 month old. 🥰🥰

Thanks for your reply, do you know how far along you were when you started bleeding? So pleased to hear you have a healthy little boy! X

@LW678, I was about 5 weeks when the bright red bleeding startred. However, things weren't right for about a week or so before that and I had brown spotting on and off in the weeks leading up to it. I was still really hopeful that things would work out as, even then, the tests were progressing well. However, the brown spotting did become more frequent and came in larger amounts until, as I said, it turned into bright red blood and I got backache. It took around 2 days before the tests started to get lighter after the heavy bleeding.

@LW678 those look like lovely strong lines! Mine never got anywhere near that. They were probs between your 3 and 4 ones. I'd say your lines are looking fantastic and very hopeful! Fingers crossed for you!

@B1993 so lovely to hear positive stories of hope! That bleeding in your pregnancy must have been pretty scary but so glad your little one arrived safely. Really hoping my rainbow will come along soon 🤞🏻💕🌈

@B1993 sorry to hear you’ve been through something so awful, just so pleased you had a happy ending.

@SnookyPook thank you, just so nervous that any day they may start fading! Sending lots of baby dust to you 🥰

@LW678 how are you progressing with your pregnancy? I’m 13dpo tested positive 9dpo and Lines getting stronger since, I was going to test tomorrow for the last time but I’m so scared I’m not even sure I can do it I have a huge anxiety about chemical pregnancy (I had one back in march)

LW678 · 23/10/2023 21:50

Really well thank you, I’m coming up to 8 weeks and have had 2 scans which both show progression. I remember being in your shoes, worst time ever. It’s meant to be the best time finding out but for me the anxiety that every day brought was awful. I wish I had some good advice for you, but what I will tell you is it does get better and the anxiety does definitely go down a notch x
