Anything you can do to make a dormant ovary ovulate

I had an ectopic 3 months ago and lost my right tube. For the last 18 months I've only ovulated from my right side ( I know because of ovulation pain). I'm aware that a tube can pick up from both side but this is something like 30% of the time.
I was told I probably wasn't ovulating from my left side due to some very large cysts - which have been removed during the ectopic surgery. 3 cycles on I'm still only ovulating from my right side. I've been told after the surgery the ovary looks very healthy so no reason I shouldn't ovulate.

I'm trying to prepare for my surgery follow up in a couple of weeks. I will be asking for a hycosy ti check my remaining tube and wondering whether clomid/ letrozole could 'wake up' my left ovary where there is a tube. Has anyone had anything like this?

I have no experience of your condition but I know that some women swear by acupuncture for getting their ovaries moving.

Might be worth a go? If not, you've had an expensive but relaxing lie down.

I came on to say acupuncture like the above poster. I have no experience of this myself, but two people I know have experienced success. Good luck.

MoonlightDreamer · 20/09/2023 11:38

I ovulate only from my right ovary too.( going purely by pain and follicle scans)
I've never experienced left sided ovary pain . I did four months of clomid, and while it did make me ovulate , it didn't do anything to my left . It makes your ovaries work harder , but I don't think it can change the fact you have a dominant ovary. Im currently going through fertility treatment and I was told its normal for a woman to have a dominant ovary.
I'm not convinced by acupuncture for this complaint.
Ive done acupuncture sessions..and experienced no difference. My last session being Monday. I booked several in advance in a package but I don't think I'll return for further sessions now thats done as I didn't find it particularly useful for reproductive issues or relaxing for that matter

Confusedddddddd · 20/09/2023 11:50

@MoonlightDreamer thanks. I don't think I'll bother with acupuncture if it's not proven to work. And it sounds like clomid won't do what I need either as I ovulate very regularly anyway.

I used to ovulate about 50/50 from both sides until I had DD 18 months ago. But at my first scan they said it would have been very difficult to conceive from the side with the cysts, and then after burst it just never started up again. After my op they said it would. I guess I can ask if there's anything that could help it, if not I guess it'd just be waiting to see if left tube picks up from the right ovary.

I wouldn't dismiss acupuncture out of hand - do some research and see what you think.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 20/09/2023 14:58

One of the things about acupuncture is that they found it impossible to do a blind test (real vs fake acupuncture) because they found that even badly done acupuncture still had positive benefits so you couldn't just put the needle in the wrong spot. So it's definitely worth a try.

I started taking Coq 10 Tablets 7 days ago. Today I feel as though I am ovulating, usual time within the month. But oddly I feel the pain in my left side, now I cannot remember the last time I felt ovulation pain on the left. I always get it on the right side.
I am wondering if these tablets have awakened my left ovary. If they have I hope I have more success this month! I have been TCC fir 8 months now.
i am not saying this will help you but you never know! 💓

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 29/09/2023 04:12

My friend failed 5 IVF attempts and then started taking high doses of coenzyme Q10 and had a successful natural pregnancy. Her problem was poor egg quality so it worked for that.

Always worth a try!

Olika · 29/09/2023 05:12

I agree Coq 10 is worth trying.

40andtrying1 · 29/09/2023 06:00

Ah sounds promising.
I started taking 300mg but now I take two tablets a day- one morning one night. So 600mg now. I hope it helps. X

40andtrying1 · 29/09/2023 06:41

What dose was she taking? I am taking 600mg now. Two tablets a day.
maybe I should take another….

Olika · 29/09/2023 07:10

When I was at H&B looking at Coq10 they told me there are different versions but some of them are more effective because they are ubiquinol. Ubiquinol is more expensive but I went for it as we had been trying for a baby for 2.5 years. I fell pregnant two cycles later. I must say I did start taking more expensive fertility supplement and did 16:8 at the same time too.
I did see a thread where someone going to fertility clinic was told to start taking Coq10 so for me that says it is seen as helpful for fertility.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 29/09/2023 10:36

It's usually 100 to 600 a day but studies have shown it is safe up to 1200 a day. It doesn't do any harm.

Although all that research was about female fertility there were no known negative effects for men so her husband took it as well.

40andtrying1 · 30/09/2023 22:17

I just wanted to let you know that I had to cut down the Coq 10 as I felt dizzy, sick, and started cold-sweating then immediately had to eat lots of sweets, chocolate to bring my sugar levels up. This has happened twice in the last week. I had this before a long time ago and my blood pressure is generally on the low side.
so I think these tablets lowers red my blood pressure even more.
shame as I wanted to take 600mg a day, but I will go back to 300mg.

I hope you are well 🌸

Confusedddddddd · 30/09/2023 22:55

Thanks to those recommending the Coq10. It's something I've been wondering about. Ive switched to pregnacare as it has it in it last month, but it probably only has tiny amounts. I'll pop into H&B and see if I can get more.

If your blood pressure is on the low side I wouldn’t recommend taking Coq 10. I’m going to have to stop mine altogether as I felt nauseous, weak and sweating, last three evenings. Exactly how I’ve felt before when I’ve had very low blood pressure. Not safe for me to take any. X

MoonlightDreamer · 30/09/2023 23:37

@Confusedddddddd my advice is don't risk taking too much like the 600mg suggested in it starts with the egg. There's a thread on here somewhere about it and there's lots of women on it, including myself that experienced a change in their cycles for the worse. I think one of the ladies actually informed thr author of the link to the thread . I only take 200mg now and find it doesn't affect my cycles anymore. 200mg is actually the amount most commonly used in the studies regarding q10. Alot suggest ubiquinol. It's quite expensive and again, most of the studies were using ubiquinone not ubiquinol anyway so I don't think the evidence is actually suffient to back it up and justify the price.
Go for soft gel capsules , you absorb them better and its best to take q10 with a fat as this makes it more absorbable as q10 is fat soluble.
Some recommend taking it at night just before bed to be more beneficial. ( but in a small amount of people this can cause insomnia)
Supplementing with smaller and more frequent doses will improve bioavailability I.e 100 mg twice daily will yield higher results than 200 mg daily .
Your body only absorbs a small amount of q10 anyway. The rest of it passes in your stools .
I take both ubiquinol and ubiquinone.

Olika · 01/10/2023 04:55

When I bought Ubiquinol at H&B they recommended 'Solgar Ubiquinol 100mg' which is pricey but at that point I was prepared to spend a bit more if it helped me to conceive. I was using Pregnacare for years but I swapped that to 'Proceive advance' which again is pricey but apparently better than Pregnacare.

Fertility reflexology. Very good for lowering stress and improving your cycle.
