Our youngest is 11 months old and we been using withdrawel method of contraception. Not trying to fall pregnant again. But we had a slip up over the weekend. And Im sure I was ovulating. I know its pathetically so early but Im feeling dreadful. My boobs ache, my back is sore, feel dizzy and so tired. Could I possibly be pregnant?? If so could I get such early signs especially that its my fourth?? Please can anyone help?? If Im not prego then whats going on?

Are you sure you are not trying to fall pregnant? Personally I would suspect anybody using withdrawal method to secretly be trying, as it is so unsafe (and how both mine were conceived...) Especially if you are ovulating, and especially if you have such early signs, I would say it is all "in the mind", in the sense you may be hoping you are?

Realistically, I think it is too early for pregnancy hormone to be produced, it is nothing more than a clump of cells that might just be floating around not knowing where to put itself just yet. Fingers crossed you get the outcome you want.

i definately had very early signs about 3 days after conception. Its not unheard of.

moopymoo · 04/03/2008 09:59

imo 'using withdrawal' = 'trying for a baby'

meemar · 04/03/2008 10:00

Is withdrawal really so unsafe? We've been using it since DS1 was born and the only time I got pregnant was with (planned) DS2!

I thought it was fairly reliable

QuintessentialShadow · 04/03/2008 10:03

No because sperm is seeping out even before ejaculation, so even if he thinks he is out in time, unknown quantities of sperm may still have entered.

Also, you need to know your cycle really well, and stay away from fertile periods, such as around or just after ovulation.

meemar · 04/03/2008 10:04

Oh! We have been very lucky then!

QuintessentialShadow · 04/03/2008 10:06

here

meemar · 04/03/2008 10:18

Thanks QS.

Not sure what 'perfect' use is as they don't explain, but 96% success rate is not bad so I think we must have been doing it right

I suppose if having another baby wasn't going to be the end of the world it's an ok method to use. That probably sums us up.

bubblagirl · 04/03/2008 10:18

withdrawl method ios so unsafe as men release sperm when they go in not just when they ejaculate

i would get yourself some other method of contrception if i were you

its known that many people have fallen pregnant this way as sperm releases on way in i think your very lucky if you dont fall pregnant

purpleduck · 04/03/2008 10:19

awww, the withdrawal method
Thats how we got BOTH our babies

QuintessentialShadow · 04/03/2008 10:21

Even thinking about it now, makes me all broody. Surely we should try and get another playmate to our two gorgeous boys?

Ags · 04/03/2008 11:02

The figures for withdrawal show that it is a terrible method of contraception if you absolutely, definately don't want a baby. However, it is the method my dh and I used successfully for 7 years before trying for ds and dd. My bf also used the same method until trying for and conceiving her children. We both thought that perhaps we may have trouble conceiving as there had been no accidents. Thankfully that wasn't the case. I think using this method may be a throwback to our Catholic upbringing!! Now, I absolutely, definately don't want any more children so I have the coil. Bliss!

Reminds me of the old joke.
Q. What do you call people who use the withdrawal method of contraception?

A. Mummy and Daddy!

soph28 · 04/03/2008 11:10

We have used the withdrawal method since having our first ds as we wanted children close together and weren't too bothered about accidents. I am pg with no.3 and will have had 3 in 3 yrs but each one was planned. After this one we will decide on a different contraception (prob the 'snip'!)

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 11:15

God your husbands must be well behaved!

We tried this for a little while once, but we were both so useless at it, it was laughable!

saying that, I didn't get pg then, but from a condom splitting, and then the MAP failing!

QuintessentialShadow · 04/03/2008 14:18

ohhhh Cazboldy, you boasting woman, you!

Are you telling us your dh is a wild animal??

cece · 04/03/2008 14:28

Got pg twice using the withdrawal method. Think you need to sort it out unless you don'e mind an accident!

Hadassah · 04/03/2008 14:32

Kind of like saying "We are using crossed fingers and had a slip-up over the weekend"

if you actually look at the stats on this site the withdrawal method looks safer than the cap and about the same as the condom.

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 18:19

QS - he has his moments

Blu · 04/03/2008 18:29

gr*kids - I came here to post the same joke as Ags did.

Yes, you could well be pg - so if so I hope this works ok for you, although in all truth i would have thought that symptoms have kicked in rather sharpish - I thought lots of different things had to happen before the hormones were so severely affected, like implantation and change from blastocyst to embryo, all of which took longer than 3 days?

So you could have 'flu and not be pg, or you could have flu and be pg....

Lulumama · 04/03/2008 18:34

withdrawal is not safe....men release sperm before ejaculation and as sperm can live up to 5 or even 7 days , you should take the MAP if you do not wnat to take a chance

if you don;t want to get pregnant, then there are lots of other methods: condoms, the pill, implants, coil etc

natural family planning, if you learn from a specialised teacher is much safer

you monitor your mucus, temperature and position of your cervix and learn when your fertile time is which is around 7 or so days

QuintessentialShadow · 04/03/2008 18:57

LULUMAMA! Am I more fertile when I am "mucusey"?

hotbot · 04/03/2008 19:44

yes qe i think you are

Lulumama · 04/03/2008 22:18

when your mucus looks like egg white, and is slippery and stretchy it is a good sign!
