IVF & Weight

I am overweight and I know there is a restriction on the NHS however naturally with TTC I am already trying to lose weight.

We are already starting blood tests etc., and I do appreciate with how the NHS has been there will likely be some delays. However I am worried I won't manage to lose the weight I need to, to hit the requirements of acceptance. So I am looking at potentially private (if we do get refused on NHS). I was just wondering, and appreciate this will differ depending on clinic, but are private under the same restrictions as NHS or as we would be funding it ourselves is there an element of flexibility?

I'm 36 and have TTC before with a previous partner unsuccessfully and nearly went for IVF (we broke up just before...), Which leads me to believe we will be heading towards IVF this time - my tests years ago were inconclusive.
Thanks

Hiya I had nhs fertility treatment (ovulation induction) for a year and fell pregnant on the last cycle before ivf, here nhs ivf needed a bmi under 30 and private clinics here are bmi under 35. Currently 25 weeks pregnant, I hope the journey goes well for you, the nhs were honestly amazing for us and moved surprisingly fast!!

I did nhs ovulation induction 3years ago and was under the weight criteria. When i went back earlier this year to try for DC2, my BMI was over 30. My doctor did the inital bloods and scans, then said she would book me an appt for 3months time to give me chance to lose the weight. I did Fast 800, lost 12kg and got my BMI down to 28 for the next appt to be able to qualify to move onto to the next stage. So depending on how much you have to lose, you might be able to work with the NHS to enable you to have the best chance to qualify. Good luck!

Thank you both!

I've got quite a lot to lose but DH and I are well on our way with the healthy eating, I just need to incorporate some exercise which I've struggled with of late due to being diagnosed with a skin condition that flares up when I sweat 🫣😩 But I've got to push through that to shift the weight so!

I've had my first bloods and I'm low on folate so I've been put on folic acid tablets for 3 months so nothing will move forward on my side until then (DH swimmers test is in a few months). It at least gives me that time to shift some! I guess I'm just worried that I'll not reach it in time. But thank you for sharing your experiences - it's good to hear the positives that people have been through 😊
