GP ordered hormone profile blood tests. But I don't know which days to get tested because of short cycle, normal O and short luteal phase

My doctor ordered 3 blood tests to check my hormone levels. These are the tests which are usually taken on cd7, cd14 and cd21.

BUT my cycles are 22 days long. I sometimes ovulate on day 14 and have an 8 day luteal phase.

My doctor has left it to me to choose when I have these tests as she says I know my cycle! She said the 3rd test should be 7 days after the 2nd test. But then someone else said it would be too late for me to have the test on day 21 if I get AF on day 22 because it is the progesterone test and it would definitely come back too low. Now I am confused.

Please help.

so your GP has agreed with you that a short luteal phase DOES happen and is a common occurrence. this makes me even more pissed off that my f*ing GP completely dismissed me when i told her that my luteal phase was 8-9 days tellign me this was rubbish and all luteal phases are 14 dys regardless.
with regards to yuor enquiry - notices that "taking charge of your fertility" by Tony Weschler has a section in the back of the book detialing when certian hormone tests shoudl be taken. have a look at this and this might help tyou out a bit.
But certainly your GP should work this out for you?

Hi Tootle,

Your doc is very unhelpful!.

If your cycles are 22 days long you may not actually ovulate on day 14. It may be actually later or earlier than that (or not at all in any one cycle). Also you can have a period without ovulating that particular cycle (an occasional anovulatory cycle is quite normal).

Presumably your blood tests are being done at the hospital. If so I would speak to them and seek their advice.

The day 7 test is the standard one to measure and compare your LH and FSH levels (these should be the same).

Is GP willing to refer you to a gynae following receipt of the results?.

My GP ordered the tests to check I am ovulating. Once I knew I was getting the tests, I did not tell her about my concerns about my luteal phase. She didn't seem to think short cycles would stop me getting pregnant and she made the assumption too that I must ovulate earlier than day 14 if my cycle is short.

I did not tell her I had done charts and knew I ovulated on cd14 because I feared she'd not send me for the tests to see if I am ovulating! Does that make sense?

Maybe I don't ovulate. I get a temperature shift but it isn't large.

My GP said the next stage would be an u/s so I guess if the test results aren't good she'll refer me to a gynaecologist.
