TTC ovulation test not peaking

Hi all!
I have been TTC baby no 2 and have pcos. I’ve been using opk and this is the first time the line has gotten dark, not sure if this is a peak or if its still low… all the lines before this have been faint.

I don’t think I’ve ovulated for a few months as my cycles are very irregular but last cycle was normal for the first time in ages (29 day).
anyone have any idea? ☺️

Though I don’t really know much about pcos, I can say that those tests didn’t work for me. I tested every day the first two months TTC and never got a strong line. Switched to CB advanced ovulation kit which worked for me and conceived that cycle.

Thank you! I have ordered the clear blue ones let’s hope they work

Hi, I agree with pp, those tests never worked for me but clearblue monitor did the trick, including the month I got pregnant. Regular OPK just got darker for me then, but never darker than the control line. I read that everyone’s body has a different LH spike sensitivity depending on LH baseline. So if someone initially has higher LH, they need darker OPK test line, if that makes sense. If your OPK line is usually light then the picture you inserted is most likely a peak. Clearblue OPKs work well because they control for baseline.

I really liked the Premom app tests. You take a picture of the test and it plots your LH levels on a chart so you can see it rising - you don’t have to try to work out how dark the line is.

Hey @Mary182 try and stick with it (as frustrating as it is) I have PCOS and just recently had a MC.

I started ovulating testing one week after my MC using this technique you are doing and also using the digital CB ovulation tests.
I had 13 days of flashing smiley faces and 3 days of a circle and then on day 17 I peaked! Try stick with it 💗 xx

Mary182 · 24/08/2023 19:22

Thank you!! I have really struggled keeping up with them, this month is probably the first month actually testing consistently, I’m using both the strips and the CB but still not a dark enough line and no smiley 😞. I only recently got diagnosed with pcos I dont think i knew i had it or if i even had it before i had my first.

Is it the circle you are getting? I know how disheartening it feels 😢
I have known I have had PCOS since I was 15 but things only really started getting back into my later teens. It's horrible x

Mary182 · 25/08/2023 00:03

Yh im getting the empty circle on the CB that means it’s negative right?

HollyBrwn · 25/08/2023 06:56

Yeah, and seeing that is soul destroying but definitely try keep with it. As much as it's a pain xxx

I have PCOS and found the ovulation strips didn’t work for me. I would sometimes see a somewhat darker line, but never as dark as the test kit said it should be for a positive.

I read online that for PCOS women the LH spike is shorter so it’s easy to miss it unless you’re testing multiple times a day (this was just something I found on Google so can’t say that’s 100% accurate, but it did calm me down about why the tests weren’t working for me).

Personally I found BBT was a better way of tracking ovulation for me, though you do have to be disciplined about taking your temperature before getting up each day.

I am currently 27 weeks pregnant, and had a previous miscarriage so have been able to conceive twice even though the first one didn’t work out.

HollyBrwn · 25/08/2023 07:26

Yeah I have known that about PCOS. I have struggled with it since I was 15 but only really started noticing the affects later on.

I tried the BBT and that didn't work for me, I just stayed consistent with the ovulation testing.
Things will work differently for different people I suppose.

Congratulation on your pregnancy! X

They look like positive OPKs. I used them for ttc #2 and #3. I didn’t like CB, they can give false readings or miss peaks. But you have to be committed and when they start getting darker do them more frequently. I was doing them at 10, 2, 6.

however, I do believe that they don’t necessarily work too well if you have PCOS. There are other things that are better, is it the Mira??

Mary182 · 25/08/2023 09:05

Yes I’ve heard they sometimes dont work for pcos. No this isn’t the mira— i was willing to purchase that to be honest but stopped myself. I think next cycle I will try BBT!

I just got the Mira after my second miscarriage - I love data and it's fascinating to see all the different hormone levels that make up our cycle!

with the CB just to explain (in case you didn't know) the flashing smiley measures oestrogen, which rises in the days leading up to your LH surge. Then the static smiley is measuring LH. So it's tracking 2 different hormones. If you're not getting the flashing smiley at all it can mean your oestrogen levels are low, and in that case it's worth seeing if the GP will do a blood test to check x
