Letrozole for long cycles/PCOS?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with Letrozole and long cycles due to PCOS? My cycles are 42-45 days long, ovulation (confirmed) c. 26-28 days in, 14 day luteal phase.

Doctor has prescribed 3 months worth of Letrozole however is it worth trying naturally considering ovulation seems to be happening naturally?

Just totally frustrating having to wait so long between attempts!

Thanks for any input!

Hi lenalove

This sounds just like my/our situation currently and I'm sorry that you are having difficulties trying - fertility journeys can be so difficult can't they?

My husband and I have been trying to have our second child for over 2 years now. My cycles have ranged from about 35 to 64 days. It was ridiculous how many ovulation sticks / pregnancy tests I peed on, just to get a single line every time. So disheartening. We finally managed to get hold of GP and start the ball rolling with what the next steps might be / what the problem was (this was all new to us as we conceived first, our son, within 6 months). Last autumn, I was diagnosed with PCOS and my husbands sperm analysis was not very good at all (less than 1% morphology).

We were advised to try and improve husband first and then go from there because there's was no point in ensuring I ovulated just for his sperm to still be lower quality. Our diets are pretty good and he does not have an unhealthy BMI but we found stress to be the biggest detrimental factor in his life so we focused on that. He exercised more and talked to a counsellor which helped hugely. He started taking the men's version of ConceivePlus fertility support too ( Ihad been taking the women's version for about 9 months). When he went back approx. 2 months later for another analysis, his morphology was 7%! They told him to keep doing whatever he was doing, because it was working!

Once my husband's improvement was established, I was prescribed letrozole at dose of 2.5mcg. This is my first month and it has made me feel tired but other than that, I'm OK. My recent ultrasound confirmed that I was about to ovulate, towards the end of the week and from the left ovary. We were told to go home and do the deed. We have a follow up appointment for January should I not fall in the meantime.

In terms of trying naturally, they would probably advise you not to in the first cycle because they want to make sure that the dosage is correct and that you don't end up creating multiple follicles, hence creating a multiple pregnancy! I understand that as you know you are ovulating and it has been confirmed, you could keep going but I would stick to using the medication as intended and see where you go from there? Are you trying for your first?

Anyway, good luck to you on your journey! And regardless of difficulties along the way, it's an exciting time!

I've used letrozole this cycle currently in tww and feeling pregnant lol.

I used to ovulate day 14-16 (28 day cycle) but I ovulated day 19 after 4 peaks!

I think you should try it.
