Struggling to conceive after miscarriage

Tryingsohardx · 14/08/2023 10:47

Hi all,

I'm 31 and had a 14 week miscarriage in December 2022, would have been our first baby.

I have had 9 cycles since miscarrying and am finding it absolutely impossible to get pregnant again. I don't know why it's not happening and it's making me so anxious and depressed. It's unbearable seeing everyone else around me conceive so easily.

Did anyone else struggle?

Does anyone have any hope for me? Why is it not happening ☹️

Are you sure you're ovulating? Have you been having sex around your peak fertile time?

Tryingsohardx · 14/08/2023 10:50

Hi yes definitely ovulating, this month I tracked LH, BBT and PDG just to make sure and all worked out perfectly, ovulation was confirmed.
We always make sure to have sex throughout the fertile window too ☹️

I'm really sorry for your loss. I had a MMC earlier this year- it's really rubbish. We're trying again but no luck yet.

Sometimes it just takes ages to conceive, there isn't always a reason. I have a toddler and it took over a year for us to fall pregnant. That doesn't make it any easier though, especially after a loss.

My advice would be to keep trying, make sure you are DTD during fertile window, but also try to distract yourself. I remember how obsessed and miserable I was when TTC my first child and it was taking ages. Try and distract yourself with friends, hobbies, days out. I know it's hard but trust your body- your rainbow will happen even if it takes a while.

If you haven't fallen pregnant again in a year you can see your GP and get some fertility testing.

Tryingsohardx · 14/08/2023 11:23

@Skyla01 thank you for your message ❤️
I'm so sorry for your loss also. Mine was also a MMC, baby died a few days after the 12 week scan.. utterly horrendous.
I appreciate your words, it's so hard to be patient isn't it when you just know you're doing everything right! I just hate when things don't make sense. But you're right, I really need to try and distract myself and I think I'm going to stop testing and tracking.
The only thing that got me through my loss was thinking I'd be pregnant again right away....how wrong I was 😫
Fingers crossed we get our rainbows soon!

That's really tough to have a scan go ok and then get the news. I found the constant cycle tracking tough- I would poas first thing (looking for ovulation) but it set me up for the day badly as I was thinking about TTC right from waking up.

Can you take up a new hobby like yoga or crafting or baking? Something easy, just to take your mind off things. It's awful when everyone else seems to fall pregnant so quickly. Often you don't know the back story behind the announcements, pregnancy loss is so common.

SMC93 · 23/10/2023 01:33

Going through the same- miscarried at 8 weeks in march unexpected baby but was happy. Due date is next week. Actively trying with no success

BusiBo · 23/10/2023 12:59

Hi, in the same boat! Miscarriage at 11 weeks in March with no success since - feeling particularly low today!
It's just awful, I swing from sadness to anger. Trying to keep busy helps, I've practically repainted the whole house 😂
I feel like 7 months on from the miscarriage, I don't really have anyone to talk too. My friends are either having babies themselves and don't need my miserable miscarriage story AGAIN, and my boyfriend seems like he's out of things he can say and do to help, it's pretty lonely.
I do find coming on here for the solidarity helpful.
Your OP was a few months ago, so hoping your doing well now. 🙂

Tryingsohardx · 23/10/2023 17:08

@BusiBo Hi so sorry for your loss and that you are also going through this. Unfortunately I am still not doing well, it has been 12 cycles for us now! We recently did a semen analysis which showed low motility so our new focus is trying to improve that!! I can't believe how hard this can be when it's so easy for many others! Sending lots of love. I am also in the process of repainting the house 😂

@SMC93 so sorry you are here also!! Sending lots of love and luck!

Hi lovely. I completely understand your frustration. I had a chemical loss in December 22 and haven't been able to get pregnant since either so unfortunately I can't offer much advice but just know your not alone

curliegirlie · 23/10/2023 17:40

@Tryingsohardx I completely understand. I'm now 21ish cycles since my early MC last March and there hasn't been a sniff of anything since. And to add to the pressure I've kind of given myself until the end of the year (as I don't want to be that far past my 42nd birthday when giving birth) so not many months to do it in now...

If it's any consolation, from TTC DD1 DH had SA done a couple of times (we took 16 months in total so had started the fertility investigations), both results were pretty awful but we conceived naturally a month or so after the last one! It just shows I think that sperm issues can be changeable /quickly solved.

OhmygoshREALLY · 24/10/2023 09:15

Hi, I hope it’s not intrusive to hop on here - just wanted to jump in and give you all a handhold. I was in your position and it sucks ❤️ and I don’t know if it will help but wanted to offer you a bit of hope. I had a MMC April 2022, tried again and couldn’t get pregnant for months and months. Had investigations - bloods, hycosy and all came back normal and fine, no reason for not getting pregnant…it took 15 months in the end and then it suddenly happened and I’m now 18 weeks and all going fine. So it can happen and sometimes it does just take that bit longer. I hope you all have success soon 💐

RosyappleA · 24/10/2023 09:28

Have you started fertility investigations because you can at the one year mark after miscarriage? That’s what I did. You can ask me any questions. The initial investigations can help give you peace of mind at the very least. Good luck.

BusiBo · 24/10/2023 09:40

@RosyappleA Hi! Just wondering if theres anything I can do to get ahead of the game in terms of fertility testing? Are they going to ask me to track my cycles or test for ovulation? Thinking I could start soon to avoid being sent away from the first appointment being told to do something I could of already been doing. Hope that makes sense 🙂

RosyappleA · 24/10/2023 10:58

At about 11 months post miscarriage (age 32) I was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound by my GP whilst at the same time being referring to a fertility department at a local hospital.
I wasn’t asked much but was sent off with 3 lots of blood tests. One was a general blood test that could be done at any time (thyroid hormones, anaemia, other sex hormones). Another blood test needed to be done at the start of my cycle so during period and the last at 5 days post ovulation (or a week before period is due, to test for progesterone). Because of this blood test it would be handy to know when you ovulate, premom strips on amazon are fine.
The fertility hospital then done a semen analysis on my partner and asked me to do a HyCoSy (camera and foam pumped into tubes to check for blockages).
One thing I would recommend is the book it starts with the egg, it is a very easy read and in hindsight I would have read this sooner. Talks about reasons for miscarriage and egg quality and at the very least helps me ensure I have done all that I can before I go for surgery as my ‘unexplained infertility’ turned out to be severe endometriosis even though i have a dd 4 btw. It is very evidence based and shows that often unexplained infertility and miscarriage is down to egg quality and that we can actually improve this as eggs mature before release (I thought we were born with a set of eggs and that was that!)
It also talks about optimal levels of hormones and things like vitamin D and testosterone in women for conception which I never read about anywhere in my two years of googling! I am taking the supplements now relevant to me. Do take it with a pinch of salt I have ignored sections on plastics in the environment.
Please update on how things go. Would love to hear about it.

Hi OP, I can totally relate. I had a TFMR in January of twins at 15 weeks, knowing it was this time last year that I got pregnant has really been playing on my mind and after my loss in January I really thought that I'd definitely be pregnant again by now and I'm not. It sucks.
A couple of months ago I tried for a cycle of not tracking/tests to try and 'not stress' about it as many people say you should, but it didn't make me any less stressed at all.

RosyappleA · 16/01/2024 12:01

Hi OP I hope things have gone well for you. I commented on this thread earlier and just wanted to update people in a similar position looking for hope. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and then diagnosis of severe endometriosis, spotting and growing endometrioma. Anyway, I want to update that something finally worked for me and it was the supplement plan for endometriosis in the book ‘it starts with the egg’ that i mentioned previously. I decided to follow this as a sort of last try before my surgery which was being booked in the next two months. Just for you or anyone reading this thread. Give it a shoT, even if it is to give your eggs the best chance before IVF.
(for more detail, my vitamin D i increased from 40 to 130 and dhea to the upper end of normal tested via medichecks. I noticed that in the 4 months of doing this my spotting stopped before my period from 4 to 1 or 2 days, my endometrioma also seemed to stopped growing. May be coincidence but i am convinced it was mainly the dhea for me and the vitamin d too. Happy to provide links of supplements to anyone reading this, nothing too expensive). I gave my partner the vitamin d and ubiquinol supplements too. I never once expected this day to come and had adjusted my life around accepting it was never going to happen. So fingers crossed for everyone! 4 months of supplements before positive

AprilShowers2021 · 29/10/2024 17:02

@RosyappleA just came across your post. Would you mind sharing the supplements please? Would love to try.

BusiBo · 30/11/2024 14:50

Hi OP @Tryingsohardx

Just reread through your post and wondering how your getting on? 🙂

RosyappleA · 05/12/2024 21:27

@AprilShowers2021 Sorry I just saw this. Sure. For 3 months I took:

  1. vitamin D (ensured my levels were close to 100)
  2. tested dhea (mine was low so supplemented for 3 months with 50mg)
  3. ubiquinol 600mg capsule daily
  4. a pregnancy supplement containing methylfolate as opposed to folic acid. Supplement to also contain vitamins E, K, B6, B12. I took biocare methyl pregnancy capsules.
  5. NAC 600mg daily.
  6. iron tablets on and off as usually borderline anemic.

All this was as per the book it starts with the egg. If you want to know more I can link products.

Hi OP!

its been a while, how are you getting on? I’m in the same boat you are. Miscarriage and struggling to get pregnant 9 cycles later. My bloods came back fine, and we get my partners sperm analysis test results in a week.

I’m not sure if it’s because of the time of year but I’m feeling it this cycle, feeling really down.

xx

Hey! Sorry I know this is an old post...however I had my Dhea tested and it was only at 2.49. Can I ask what yours was? Should I be supplementing x
