Darker pregnancy test after miscarriage help!

Ok this might sound confusing I'm trying to summarise as quick as possible. I had a positive pregnancy result last Wednesday and started bleeding on the Friday ( 4 weeks 4 days ) Went to the hospital and they did a urine test that came back negative but decided to do a blood test. Blood test HCG level came back at 11 so they told me not to come in for a second test and 'confirmed' my miscarriage. I bled up until Tuesday and took a test to see if it was negative ( it was, but was an older test I had lying around though was still in date for 2 months ) I then decided to start taking ovulation tests on Wednesday as is my plan to try again this month. My LH levels have been through the roof every day since then ( considering when my app said I ovulated before it's never been above 0.82 ) so i went and bought some more tests today to test again and they have come back positive? And the line is darker than it was when I originally found out I was pregnant ? I'm so confused I really don't want to get my hopes up but I'm not sure where I should go from here ? Anyone else had something similar after a supposed miscarriage this early?

I’ve not been through similar, but I’d have thought hcg would have disappeared from miscarriage by now….mine only took a few days.
go straight to epu , low hcg could be sign of ectopic pregnancy

Chica1990 · 13/08/2023 00:05

I think you should call the place that said you
didn't need to come back for a second test as this seems really unusual. If anything, with the bleeding they should do this to rule out an ectopic. Have you had any pain?

It was the epu at my local hospital that told me to not come back. I had to ring them for the results the next day and she said my levels were so low there was no point coming in for the second blood test since I was bleeding so much anyway. I haven't had any pain really no, some slight cramping today nothing particularly bad hence why I am so confused

This is what I thought, does HCG continue to rise with ectopic ? I don't know enough about this I think I need to do some research. I'll call the epu tomorrow and see what they say

I think so, but I think it rises slower. Normally characterised by side pain but obviously you’re quite early on. Go to epu tomorrow explaining situation and request a scan

purplebluediscorain · 13/08/2023 00:17

you need to go back or ring the epu at the hospital again and tell them you are concerned etc. you need to get which ever way it went confirmed and closure/be aware of what is actually going on inside your own body. I would be at the hospital right now.

purplebluediscorain · 13/08/2023 00:19

When I miscarried twice in a row they did bloods every 48 hours until they knew what was going on and they scanned me. I knew it was a miscarriage it was confirmed. I however had 3 pregnancies in 4 months and it was scary because I was like you! You need to go and get answers for your

Yes it does riss but a lot slower and can fluctuate as well. This happen with both of mine. You may also not be in severe pain. I wasn't either time but can now recognise the way it feels for me. Even when my tube ruptured I wasn't in agony.

I had an ectopic that was diagnosed the same way yours was. I kept bleeding on and off for 3wks before my tube ruptured and I ended going back in because I had internal rectal discomfort (internal bleeding) I'm lucky it wasn't more serious. Incredibly lucky. I did test one week later as per instructions but it was negative, they then did a urine test in a&e and it was blazing positive.

It's gest to get it checked out. Fingers crossed its good news and what you experienced was implantation bleeding.

Snugglemonkey · 13/08/2023 00:41

I would go back. I had ivf and so had support from the clinic. It was nhs and not the kind of support I have had subsequently in private clinics, but easier access to services than I had once discharged to maternity services. I was actually bleeding before test day, which had happened the previous cycle and was my period, but they said to test anyway on the test day.

It said positive. So they had me come in for blood tests. The next day, I was tested. I was still bleeding. I answered the questions and they were v sympathetic and said that because of the quantity of blood, it was unlikely that I had a viable pregnancy, but that they would ring and tell me the numbers.

I do not remember the numbers now, but low, so it was reiterated that it was unlikely to be a viable pregnancy, but not impossible, so I should go back in 2 days to see what had happened the levels.

That day, I knew I needed the level to have doubled to indicate viability. It had not. It was up a tiny amount, but not nearly enough. I was booked in for a scan a week later and we discussed that if there was no fetal pole and my bloods were not reflecting what was necessary, I could potentially have a d and c and go back to ivf asap.

One week later, I had a scan. There was a wee heartbeat. So early it was not really a beat, but an off beat flutter. There nonetheless. Beside it was a wee collapsing sac.

Sometimes numbers are not the whole story. My 7 year old was that wee flutter.

This is my 3rd miscarriage now and second in the last 8 months and that's hard enough! I can't imagine how terrifying that was for you. I'm going to ring tomorrow and see what they say

That sounds terrifying I'm so thankful things turned out okay for you in the end and you didn't have too much damage from it 💕 thank you for your comment I'll ring them tomorrow and see what they say

They treated me very robotic when I went for the blood test kinda like they were blowing me off. I was very annoyed that they just said yeah you don't need to have the second blood test especially now that I'm in this situation.

What an amazing story you have to tell though! The whole situation must've been scary at the time but I'm so glad you got a healthy baby at the end of it! Thank you for your advice and comment it's made me feel a little less terrified of my situation 💕

Did you go back to the EPU @paigeeemicj ?

Did you go back to the EPU @paigeeemicj ?

I did yes, on Monday they took my bloods and my HCG level came back at 68.2 which is higher than the 11 it was before but not high enough to consider it a viable pregnancy. I had my bloods taken again today to see what's going on but they have basically confirmed the miscarriage now. They're worried about it being ectopic but won't do any scans because I don't have a lot of pain and the HCG is too low? I don't really understand what they're testing for now they just said they're going to develop a plan based on what these results come back as. Honestly I just want to know what's going on so I can move forward but it's heartbreaking all the same. We have been trying for over a year now and I was so excited to finally get a positive it feels like life is playing a big joke on me 😭

paigeeemicj · 17/08/2023 15:12

Update: I went in this morning for a scan, it's ectopic 😭 they're sending me for more bloods but hoping that it resolves on its own since my symptoms aren't too bad. Thank you everyone for your help 💕

So sorry @paigeeemicj I'm glad they kept checking and are keeping an eye on, just incase. It's horrible to be in limbo and feeling like you have to wait to move on.

I know how annoyed you must be. I was also trying for a year and had an ectopic, which led to having a tube removed. I got pregnant 3 months later and have an almost 2 year old now. Don't lose hope, you will get there x
