Baby after having Thyroiditis

Has anyone had another baby after having post pregnancy thyroiditis?

I developed post pregnancy Thyroiditis approx 7 months after DC2. It came on during an incredibly stressful period in my life and my lifestyle at the time was absolutely dire.

Got it under control pretty quickly with meds (neomercazol and propranolol) symptoms gradually decreased and was I weaned off meds within 12 months. Bloods have all been ok for 2.5 years now.

GP has given me the green light to start TTC but I would like to hear from anyone who had a reoccurrence during pregnancy, and what treatment/symptoms you had

Thanks!

I'm interested in this too. I had an overactive thyroid in 2022 which the specialist initially thought was post-natal thyroiditis but then decided it was Graves disease as my antibodies were high. It was controlled with carbimazole and my thyroid seems back to normal now.
Trying to get pregnant again so not sure if I need to do anything fancy with my thyroid if/when I get pregnant again

Same here. Not sure if there is anything Thyroid specific that I should do prior to (hopefully!) getting pregnant.

I've started taking a mix of both pregnancy & Thyroid friendly supplements to try set myself up - Vit D, B12, COQ10, magnesium & zinc. I'm not sure if they are actually any use but I figure no harm taking them as a proactive measure!

I think I will check in with my GP again and see what she says. I'll come back here and tag you with any potentially useful updates/feedback Smile

You can't take carbimazole during pregnancy if your ttc you need to ask your Dr's to switch you to PTU you will need extra blood tests and there is a higher chance of miscarriage under 12 weeks

Personally I've had three children with graves disease it can be a bit rocky but they all got here safe and well

@Theunamedcat ah thanks - I stopped taking Carbimazole at the end of last year.
Might have other questions for you though if things work out!

Hi, I had pregnancy induced Graves' disease after my first child. It came on about 7 months after the birth and coincided with my going back to work, very stressful.

Became pregnant again 3 years later and nothing Smile However I was under significantly less stress. The NHS monitored me but thyroid levels were always normal.
