Likelihood of LH surge but no ovulation?

Hi everyone,

Wonder if anyone has dealt with anything similar to this.

DH and I are TTC our first starting from this cycle. I have long but fairly regular cycles (42-45 days each time) with definite symptoms of ovulation occurring in the time frame predicted by my Flo app. My periods are light and only c. 2 days long.

Due to my long cycles I had some tests done that showed everything is normal (bloods/hormones, fallopian tubes etc) other than cysts being found on my ovaries during an internal ultrasound. I have no other symptoms of PCOS. That being said, the cysts are likely linked to the long cycles according to my doctor.

This cycle I decided to use ovulation tests (the smiley face digital clearblue ones) and after 2 days of negative followed by 2 days of flashing smiley, this morning I had a solid smiley face appear which I know means a peak level of LH and therefore imminent ovulation in theory in next 12-24hr. This again coincides with the prediction in my Flo app timing-wise and my physical symptoms.

I am concerned however that despite this I might not actually be releasing an egg and ovulating due to the cysts, my long cycles and short/light periods. Is this a likelihood?

Any thoughts much appreciated, thank you.

Hi, yes it is possible. The best way to check if you have ovulated is to have a progesterone blood test on day 21 of your cycle, although since you have long cycle is the best date for you would be seven days after your positive peak OPK. Your doctor can do this for you, but I found it quicker and easier to do privately. If you search for female hormone at home, Randox test you will find tests you can order for £29 and do it Home seven days or eight days after peak OPK. This will tell you if you’re ovulating. BBT tracking can also help but less reliable than the blood test!

@AnonyHB thanks that's really helpful. I have ordered a progesterone testing at home kit from Superdrug, it says to take it 7 days before expected period. Although my cycles are long they are fairly regular so I should be able to estimate that OK using the flo app.
