Cost of letrozole privately

Just wondering if someone could give me an idea of recent private prescription cost of letrozole.
Nhs prescribed clomid but won't budget on switching me ,even tho clomid is doing nothing for me, so I'd like to give letrozole a shot before moving on. How much is it costing per month of letrozole. Is there also a private prescription charge?

I get a prescription from a private fertility clinic and the pharmacy always charge me £9.65 for Letrozole no matter how many tablets it is, just the standard prescription charge, even though it's a private prescription. Which is weird because with other private prescriptions from the same clinic they charge me the proper amount.

Obione1 · 03/08/2023 22:39

I'm paying £500 per round, private clinic in London - but that was scans, tests etc, & the tabs.

Hi,

Can i asked which private clinic you've used? I'm also in London - work in london bridge so ideally wanted something in central.

Also did you go to them to say you needed letrozole? or did htey test and suggest? I have PCOS as i have confirmed privately and through BBT i ovulate some cycles and not others...

So want some fertility help!

Augustmoon1 · 08/08/2023 15:03

I paid around six quid per 2.5mg tablet for IVF. Two tablets per day for 5 days - sixty quid.

Nevermay · 08/08/2023 15:10

why would you be wanting letrozole?

Obione1 · 08/08/2023 15:12

@Optimistic66 it's a private clinic at St barts fertility clinic, I had to get all the testing done - 90% they managed to do through my private health insurance under the guise of irregular periods..
I had to have a Hycosis (tubes checked) and that was £500 and for my first round - consultation, Provera, as I wasn't having a period, Letrazole, Scans and access to them via whatsapp for questions etc. was also £500. Just starting my second round & that is also £500 lol
Let me know if you want her details & i can send them over

Seen as though this is a conception forum, why on earth do you think?

Optimistic66 · 08/08/2023 16:07

@Obione1

Optimistic66 · 08/08/2023 16:09

So £1000 in total for first try of letrozole including testing? or £500

Please share espc if you would recommend your experience. I bellieve i need help ovulating - as i have also had testing done under the guise of irregular periods that confirmed I have PCOS - but they reffered me back to my GP to refer me for fertility.

Hey @Optimistic66
Sure is, my consultant is Jyotsna Pundir & she is matter of fact, very thorough, available and very gentle (which, when you're having all the tests done, is needed) My Hycosy with her was actually painless and i felt dignified. She loves her job too.

Nevermay · 08/08/2023 18:16

This is really odd to me, I am on letrozole to supress hormones, so if it is being used as a fertility drug, why am I on it???

PinkMandalorian · 08/08/2023 18:25

@Nevermay because I don't ovulate. Letrozole is also used as an ovulation induction

If you are in London Bridge, look at going via the private arm of Guys Hospital. I was treated by Dr Davinia White on the NHS side, but she was brilliant and DD1 was conceived on letrozole. I was already under St Thomas' endocrinology for PCOS so i was referred internally for all the fertility tests etc so not sure if you would have to repeat them, but worth investigating. Good luck!

@Nevermay it suppresses oestrogen to allow ovulation for people who don’t ovulate. Is suppresses oestrogen which is why I imagine you’re on it? It’s a breast cancer drug and a fertility drug. I can imagine why it’s confusing.

a private prescription charge would be £150 and then the Letrozole usually is £60-70 for me. Plus delivery. We get it from stork which can deliver to you nationally.

isn't that the exact opposite of what I am using it for? A hormone suppressant to prevent return of breast cancer? does it do two completely different things? Or have I totally misunderstood why I am taking it?

No. It acts in exactly the same way. I take letrozole too. It suppresses oestrogen. People with breast cancer take it permanently. Those using it for fertility take it in cycles, on and off, to stop oestrogen at certain times and encourage ovulation.

Neverseenbefore · 08/08/2023 18:48

Generic letrozole only costs pennies.

ok, thank you for explaining - I guess that makes sense -

I just picked up my prescription for Letrozole today, paid standard NHS charge around ten quid for a box of 28.

Laura333xxx · 09/08/2025 16:07

Hey guys what’s your views on letrozole and are you taking any more supplements I’m on 5mg they won’t up my dose . I have a 9 month course just started my 5th month and don’t think it’s doing a lot. I was a week late on period and I’m producing the egg follicles when have scans but then never getting pregnant. Myself and partner try every other day from day 10 to 20 and I have 4 months left then no help as have older children. And will only help people who haven’t had children. Any tips would be great as just feel im taking tablets and the upset each month when I come on.
