Menopause test, positive?

For context.. I’m 29, have PCOS and currently on cycle day 57.

I thought there might be a chance I was pregnant as I’d had unprotected sex a couple of times during my cycle, but all tests have come back stark negative.

I’ve been told that women with PCOS sometimes go through menopause early, so took a menopause test just out of curiosity.

To my devastation, the test had a faint line 😩 which indicates higher than normal FSH levels.

Has anyone got any advice or personal experiences?

Pic attached.

That's a very, very faint line. I think I'd be inclined to say that if your levels are higher than usual, they're only slightly higher (although I have no experience with this!) I'd definitely speak to your GP for advice instead of relying on the test.

If you want to TTC with PCOS your GP can assist with that, too... Metformin is usually helpful to regulate your hormones/cycles. My cycles were 24-50 days without Metformin, but stabilise around 30 days with Metformin.

Inofolic Alpha (supplement) also worth looking into.

I didn't know a menopause test was a thing?!

Can I ask where you get these tests please, im 43 and having symptoms of menopause. X

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 02/08/2023 13:00

I wouldn't say that is a faint line, it's more like an evaporation line - can hardly see it! I would go to the Drs and ask for the fertility related blood tests (FSH, AMH etc), they might be able to help make this happen more quickly for you, and to encourage ovulation with clomid etc.

Fuckingfumin · 02/08/2023 14:07

Hang on.

that's not how those tests work

This is an example of a menopause ( FSH) test
No line is a good thing!

Menopause dosent occur early with pcos, its usually later

I didn't know menopause tests were a thing. I thought it was hard to diagnose. I've been to doctors a few times as worried about premature menopause but nothing like this has been mentioned... Hmmm

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 02/08/2023 17:07

I think that looks negative. Looking online it seems to be the test line has to be as dark as the control to be a positive result.

That's what I thought.

The menopause test I did was like that.
so similar to an ovulation test, as dark as or darker than.

Even with premature ovarian insufficiency (which is what you would be diagnosed with at your age rather than "menopause") the FSH fluctuates wildly.

They aren't designed for this purpose. If you are concerned about your fertility please see a Dr.

(Source - I have this condition and was diagnosed young)

namechangequeen35 · 03/08/2023 07:19

I also did one of these when I was younger and it had a line, stronger than that!

Terrified myself, though menopause was pending and they I'd never have a child etc etc.

Went to the Drs who said they'd do a blood test as FSH fluctuates anyway. Anyway all was fine. So I really don't trust them at all.

Go to the Gp, they can do blood tests at the right time in the cycle and reassure you.

I'm sure everything is ok op Smile
