21 day test - what next?

not sure if this is the right board to post this on, but hopefully some of you might have been through this and can give me some advice.

I’ve been ttc for 10 months now, no sign at all of a bfp. I had my results back from a 21 day test at the weekend, which came back with a result of 33.5, which they said is consistent with ovulation taking place.

that’s good to know I guess, but what next? Should I call up my gp and request next steps? I know my partner needs to book in for tests too.

im convinced the issue lies with me though, as I seem to always start spotting a week after ovulation, which I’m sure must be a problem.

I just feel at such a loss already 😔

Hi, I can’t really help but I’m in exact same position. TTC 10months (with a year before that not preventing), spot a week after ovulation until AF starts. Day21 progesterone was similar to yours.

my spotting tends to start day 22-24 so my thinking is my progesterone probs drops sharply after the day 21 test.

I’ve had tv ultrasound, HyCoSy, all clear.

using pressed and fertility, Lh and bbt.

Feeling really sad!

im booked in for nhs investigations in sept xx

And sorry to actually answer your Q - I called my gp who did my DH’s SA first, which was all clear. So once that was ticked they off they wrote fertility/gyn referral for me.

Did DH have his sperm analysed?

After 12 months of trying and normal/blood spern tests we decided to go private and were fortunate to be able to afford the £500 consult and HSG.

HSG showed no issues but apparently it can help to "clear out the tubes".

My consultant prescribed Clomid after the normal HCG and I fell pregnant the 2nd month.

@Sierra26 oh wow - I haven’t spoken to anyone else who has similar spotting to me - mine is exactly the same though, I always spot between 5-8 days until af eventually starts. I didn’t spot at all until I started ttc, which is so frustrating. How long are your cycles usually?

my partner and I both take proceive but I might look into progesterone creams etc. also heard a lot about preseed so i might try that too. I really share your pain though, all my friends got pregnant so quickly (which I’m so happy for, but I can’t help feel inadequate somehow) ☹️ I will call the gp this week

@Alloveragain3 he hasn’t had any tests done yet but I guess that is next steps. He’s really resistant to it (despite wanting a baby) but he’s going to have to do it.

congratulations on your pregnancy, that’s amazing! And after all that time and worry, I bet it feels so special. My mum needed clomid so I kind of think I will too (not sure if it’s a hereditary thing). Temptation to just go private is v high

Ah, thank you!

Absolutely, give DH a kick in the bum. The test is so easy and we got results within a few days.

DH's count was a normal but on the low side and the consultant advised he start taking Proxeed. Blooming expensive but we were willing to try anything.
I really hope you get that BFP soon, it can seem like an eternity when waiting in that 'Limbo' stage of TTC.

Sierra26 · 31/07/2023 19:02

@Alloveragain3 did you have clomid prescribed without any signs of ovulation issues? Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

@Fifii imy cycles are pretty standard between 26 and 29 days, have got a bit shorter with my age (I’m 34). I’m also dying to be prescribed progesterone, I really do have this hunch that’s what’s wrong. Defs get your DH to do the test, us women have to go through so much with our testing and planning.

All my tests so far have been private (DH SA was NHS). I had this feeling my spotting would be an issue so saw a private gynae through my work health insurance (they don’t cover fertility so raised as gynae issue). I also paid for my hycosy, around £400. I’d be paying for private fertility consult now (with hope to try some meds) if it weren’t for my NHS appt coming up next month

@Sierra26 Thank you! Yes, I did. The specialist told me it gave the sperm 'more targets to aim for'. I think it's not advised for those with limited ovarian reserve or who are a bit older but as I was 33 and had a normal/low AMH, we agreed it was worth a shot.
The plan was 6 months on Clomid and then reassess if it hadn't worked.
