On another group I am on, people have spent around £60k before moving onto something like adoption or surrogacy. I was just wondering how much people had spent in total? I know different circumstances mean people remortgage/save/beg raise different amounts so there’s no set amount and people can cope with different amounts of cycles.

i think those who haven’t gone/going through it realise the amounts. I’m just trying to prepare.

We spent around 30k - that was on 5 transfers, using donor eggs.
None worked (not a single BFP).
Got pregnant naturally 6 months after the last cycle!!
Can't believe I'm one of those miracle stories 🥰 DD is now almost 3yo.

Bluewater1 · 25/07/2023 22:48

We spent around 15k altogether

CR7 · 25/07/2023 22:55

HopityHope · 25/07/2023 22:55

@jemimafuddleduck incredible ❣️

icanflytoday · 25/07/2023 23:00

1st fresh cycle £15k ten years ago (he's asleep next to me tonight as he's poorly with a temperature!)

2nd frozen cycle around eight years ago £12k. He's asleep in his own bed thankfully.

Worth every penny.

Tailfeather · 25/07/2023 23:06

@jemimafuddleduck AMAZING!!!!!!

I spent £12k.

ameanoldscene · 25/07/2023 23:15

@jemimafuddleduck - that's wonderful. £2,500 - one round of treatment after 5 years of trying - 21 years ago. I was 42 at the time so consider myself very lucky. Then a surprise baby at 43.

IVFlife · 25/07/2023 23:22

About 4k so far on a failed cycle (got a refund for part so only spent 4k)

But if you add in the supplements and counselling etc etc then it all adds up to so much more

poptypingchef · 25/07/2023 23:31

About £11,000 we had 3 cycles, 4 transfers but the first cycle was NHS. I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant

DumpedByText · 25/07/2023 23:49

£16k, 2 abandoned cycles, 3 full cycles, last one worked and she's now 16. It was much cheaper back then I think!

I've not included the money spent on special vitamins and numerous acupuncture sessions in that amount. 😉

TheBirdintheCave · 26/07/2023 09:56

We're currently on about £6k which was one fresh round with a transfer that ended in a chemical. Each further FET we have to have is £1600 at our clinic.

Keeptrying2023 · 26/07/2023 13:24

About £42K - 45K in total for 3 cycles. Currently 26 weeks pregnant.

YouPistonWhat · 26/07/2023 13:32

40k

letshaveachangeshallwe · 26/07/2023 13:36

£3000. I was lucky it was one round of ICSI at Reprofit in Czechia which was thousands upon thousands of pounds cheaper than the UK.

NotMyDayJob · 26/07/2023 13:41

About £12k on a single round of donor eggs, baby is now 16 months. We had 4 embryos left but we've donated them. The vast cost, over half was for the eggs themselves.

Cattenberg · 26/07/2023 13:46

More than £12k and I have one child as a result. I don’t want to work out the exact total, it’s too depressing. Since then, the clinic has whacked up its embryo storage charges by a massive amount, and I’m still paying. I liked my consultant, but I’ve come to loathe the clinic.

ivfbabymomma1 · 26/07/2023 13:47

We spend £15k on total and have a beautiful DS. We have 7 frozen embryos in storage and it will take £2k each try but currently undecided

Bowlplatesoupandroll · 26/07/2023 13:49

20 years ago and 15 years ago. Including an NHS rounds had 7 attempts. £12000 in total.
Have a singleton and twins. I actually had a cut off point of 6 attempts (with dc 1 got pregnant first time, dt was 6th attempt) because my then neighbours just kept on going and going and it made the lady very ill physically and mentally and they didn't seem to be able to stop, i was so frightened of the same happening to me I had this self imposed stop. I remember the day they took my bloods to see if I was pregnant and saying either way this was my last visit and was told they had quite a few women who had for one reason or another got an end date in mind. It's a very personal journey that takes a lot out of you financially, physically and mentally, for me it was worth it but hard going at the time.

HopityHope · 27/07/2023 18:52

Thanks, it’s useful to see how much people have spent and congratulations to everyone currently pregnant.

Porridgeislife · 27/07/2023 18:58

£50k. Four egg collections and two FETs. Worth every penny but certainly didn’t feel like it at the time.

IPokeBadgers · 27/07/2023 19:00

£15k on two cycles of ICSI, refunded £2k as no eggs made it to embryo stage in second round so no 2nd transfer. So £13k total.

Gave up at the point and am childless/childfree after infertility. We had money for one more round but were advised donor eggs was best course of action and that wasn't for me. I'm at peace with it now.

Best of wishes for your journey OP, I hope you get want you want x
