I'm new to charting but am now on day 13 of luteal phase and my temperature just keeps going up. Is this significant?

have you tested?

Some women can have another thermal shift after implantation, although it is not always obvious.

Other things that might raise your temperature would be illness, alcohol or taking your temp later than normal.

When are you expecting your period? If it were me, I would probably be testing around now.

Havent tested yet, after lots of BFNs have decided to try and wait a bit longer this time. Have been really good about taking temp at same time and keeping off the alcohol. Am really irregular hence started charting to try and find out what was going on.

How long is your luteal (time between ovulation and period) phase normally?

In the book I have read about this, it says that if you have more than 18 high temps in a row then you are pregnant.

No harm in waiting to test if you can stand the suspense of another few days!

Any news belabalou?

Hi belabalou,

Temp charting is actually of not much benefit if your periods are irregular in nature. You can end up with a chart all over the place. Another problem is that you can get a temp rise in the second half of a cycle when an egg has not been shed.

Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances - in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. Another possibility is thyroid imbalance.

If you have been ttc for a while now I would pay a visit to the GP to have a blood test done. This will tell what your hormone levels are actually like.

I would agree that temp charting alone isn't hugely reliable for an irregular cycle, however if it is combined with checking cervical mucus and cervix position then it can be useful.
