Anyone unsuccessful while on progesterone and/or aspirin but fell pregnant once they stopped progesterone and/or aspirin?

I don't know if my title makes sense..

I've had a couple of miscarriages and a couple of chemical pregnancies. I'm on progesterone and aspirin (wasn't on them when I miscarried but was on them when I had CPs).

I read up a lot on both and have read many many positive stories about both aspirin and progesterone. Which is why I started both.

But I also read somewhere recently that the fertility expert from Coventry (can't remember her name) does not recommend aspirin during conception/implantation etc. I'm not sure where I read it but it made me wonder whether there is anyone who has tried aspirin without success but then fell pregnant when they didn't take aspirin? Or is it definitely a 'can't harm - might help' drug?

What about progesterone? Is there anyone who fell pregnant once they stopped bothering with progesterone?

I hope what I'm saying makes sense. I was so hopeful and desperate being on both but haven't been successful... so now I'm thinking maybe I should try a cycle without..

Any help appreciated

I don’t want to give false hope because I don’t know why my story unfolded how it did. But for what it’s worth, this did happen for me.
I used to conceive very easily (most cycles when trying) and had had multiple miscarriages. On progesterone after ovulation, I stopped conceiving, which I thought was a good sign, but then I didn’t conceive at all. We did a round of IVF with nothing to implant. I stopped progesterone next cycle and conceived my daughter, now 10 months.
As I say, I have no idea why we got so lucky in the end, but all the months using progesterone I did feel hot and constantly had a sour taste in my mouth.

I've never been on progesterone but I've taken aspirin and it hasn't done much for me.
The one month I fell pregnant I wasn't taking it.
I was also told aspirin is only beneficial if your having recurrent loss , perhaps due to clotting or have a medical reason to take it like after fertility treatment it's sometimes recommended because the drugs can suppress the blood flow to the uterus .
Taking aspirin without being advised can actually do more harm than good and can prevent implantation and increase your risk of miscarriage. It interferes with a chemical, so that doctor isnt making it up.
I'd rather be safe than sorry and it hasn't helped get or stay pregnant anyway

I never conceived even though I didn’t use protection. One time I took the morning after pill, I didn’t get pregnant but 2 weeks later I did. The morning after pill works like anti-progesterone to delay ovulation. I don’t know what happened but I think it reset my hormones. Ever since that time I find it hard to get pregnant again. So something with the progesterone definitely did something

Amyjones86 · 21/06/2023 15:20

I had 5 miscarriages last year and am now 23 weeks pregnant after being prescribed 150mg aspirin and 800mg progesterone daily. I stopped both at 16 weeks from advice from my consultant. Both worked for me. Good luck!

I've never heard of people taking aspirin or progesterone before conceiving? My understanding is progesterone affects the lining and aspirin is to prevent blood clotting - I would think taking them before conceiving would have an impact on your cycle?

Thanks so much everyone for replying. I'll reply individually to posts as I can never remember

@orangehour I'm confused by your post (sorry 🙈). So are you saying when you were on progesterone you were unsuccessful but when you were not on progesterone you successfully conceived your little one?

Thanks @PinkMandalorian. I definitely don't have clotting (they tested me for 'sticky bloods' and it came back negative). I have wondered if it's better not to take aspirin in my case. It's just that I've read so many examples where women took it after recurrent loss which resulted in successful pregnancies but since that's not happening I'm wondering if I should stay off it. Your advice is helpful, thank you

@Peachyplumm that's so interesting, thanks for sharing your story. I find it helpful to hear different people's experiences..

Congratulations @Amyjones86 that's amazing 🥳🥳. I wish you a healthy and happy pregnancy and that all goes smoothly. Thanks for sharing your story.

That's what I seem to hear from most people - ie that aspirin and progesterone helped them conceive (in my case it hasn't - yet). Were you successful as soon as you started aspirin and progesterone?

Also, did you take 400mg progesterone AM and 400 PM?

@BudgetBuster I probably didn't explain things well. So I've been taking progesterone from around 5 days post ovulation but have taken aspirin round about ovulation time (in the evenings - that's what other people recommended). But am now wondering if I should try a cycle without either

I've had multiples losses too. Daily aspirin is part of my preconception plan (under Dr Shehata). I also take progesterone from ovulation. I do have infertility as well as recurrent losses. I do think my natural progesterone levels have hindered me getring pregnant. Higher levels of progesterone helped me get pregnant with (used pessaries and injections daily) but I miscarried again due to my immune system (healthy baby). We're ttc naturally again now.

Sending love, recurrent losses and being unable to get pregnant - there are no words to describe it x

DancinOnTheCeiling · 21/06/2023 16:32

@VenusStarr I'm so so sorry to hear your story. And thank you for sharing. We're actually lucky, we do have one DC (nearly 4) and have tried for #2 for almost two years. So it's secondary infertility for us which sucks but I can't even begin to imagine struggling with primary infertility. So so sorry and I of course wish you all the best of luck.

So when you say you're ttc naturally now, do you mean without aspirin/progesterone etc?

Is Dr Shehata the doctor who specialises in immune issues - think I've read the name here? I'm asking as I have an autoimmune condition so wondering if I should look into it. Having said that I had this condition when we conceived DC1 so it obviously didn't stop me conceiving then..

Ah apologies, I thought you meant you took both all the time 😂 What you are doing makes sense. To be honest, I think we will always question 'if I took this or didn't would my outcome be different'.... there's no real harm in trying to conceive without them for one or two cycles I'd think?

VenusStarr · 21/06/2023 17:12

Sorry @DancinOnTheCeiling I take aspirin everyday but progesterone after ovulation. We did ivf for the last 2 years and I had loads of issues so we took 6 months off and just restarted trying (without ivf), so will take progesterone in my luteal phase. It's gard to know whether it will help. When I first started progesterone after ovulation I conceived really quickly. But not been able to conceive naturally since. But have with ivf 🤷🏻‍♀️ its a minefield.

Yes, Dr Shehata looks at immune factors (mine are very overactive in pregnancy and we've lost at least 2 healthy babies due to it, not tested the others). I'm on a cocktail of immune meds as well but unfortunately they've not helped us have a continuing pregnancy.. he does see a lot of people with secondary infertility as well.

Interesting to hear that aspirin can help too, not heard of that before. I have had a mmc and what I assume will be classed as a CP last week (I'd have been around 4/5 weeks). I've got a doctors appointment next week to discuss if I can have any investigations or not. Although I have a healthy child, when I was 5 weeks with him I had a bleed where it was discovered there were 2 sacs, so he should have been a twin. I can't help but wonder if it was because I'd have had a higher level of hormones that kept him going or not.

orangehour · 21/06/2023 23:01

Sorry, it’s so hard to get all the info straight writing these posts!! That’s right, I conceived after stopping the progesterone, although as I say I have no idea why and there were other things I had just stopped. I’d also just started a booster from the specialist with a heap of ingredients like melatonin etc plus DHEA. Most doctors seem to say you can’t have too much progesterone :/

Amyjones86 · 22/06/2023 16:10

Hi @DancinOnTheCeiling yes I started taking it from my consultation appointment day before Christmas eve and then got my first faint positive 5th Feb at 8dpo then I start taking the progesterone 400mg AM and 400mg PM. Wishing you all the best.
