How do you know that you are ovulating??

Sorry if it's a stupid question but I have never noticed. Now I am paying a bit of attention and I have noticed some cramplike feelings on CD8 - but was that ovulating?
Or could I be ovulating days after the cramps?
How can you tell?
TIA

i have a 28 day cycle and i normally ovulate around day 14 or 15 this month it was day 11 12. i use a fertility monitor to be definite but i can also tell by my mucus (becomes v. stretchy0 and posisiton of cervix (it rises up a wee bit) i don't get cramping or any other symtoms.

Mucus and cervix patterns are the best indicator. There are all sorts of things you can monitor - the FertilityUK website has some good resources. Mainly written from a natural family planning perspective, i.e. trying to avoid conception, but obviously you can use the symptoms in the other direction too.

I would heartily recommend doing a chart or two if you have the patience - really helps you to understand what your body's doing.

Hi Romy - get a nasty pain, like a stabbing pain when ever i'm ovulationg. It changes side each month and lasts roughly 3 hours each time. I sometimes have to take pankillers. Have a look at this page - its quite a good site and should answer some of your questions. x
