DPO vs Days Before Missed Period

So apologies in advance if this is a daft question but honestly it gets me every month! I’m month 14 for TTC #2 after a MC last year (we didn’t know how lucky we got the first time round! Only 4 months trying and a textbook pregnancy)

I’m starting to lose the plot so like many every month in the 2ww I’m losing my mind and testing way more than I should, and scrutinising for lines under my phone torch 🙄(and weirdly they never appear no matter how hard I look lol)

and then everyone month I fluctuate because like today I’m 9DPO and half of me thinks I’m too early to test but then also I’m 5 days before my missed period and the packets say it’s like 71% accurate today 😭(boots early detection, so like 10 parts needed of hcg)

but they seem to contradict each other! Which do you listen to during the 2ww madness? 😂

(first time poster after long time lurking each month reading the same threads over and over lol)

I have absolutely no idea but jumping on as very interested to hear the answer! I usually ovulate around day 17/18 of a 28 day cycle. So I’m only 5ish dpo when I’m ‘6 days before missed period’. I’ve read on here that there is NO chance of a positive that soon after ovulation so I find it very confusing.
Im in a similar position to you - TTC number 2, got pregnant with dc1 quite quickly. Got pregnant with number two super quickly but lost it early too and no luck since then! Also an absolute test addict! Sending you lots of luck this month!

People's luteal phase varies. So when I'm 8dpo I'm usually around 9 days before AF is due. It all depends on when you ovulate and how long your luteal phase is. However once you ovulate implantation takes place between 6 and 12 days later. Hcg rises within a couple of days of implantation. So you're unlikely to get a positive before 8dpo however you may not get a positive until 14dpo!

Thanks so much for the replies 🥰

@Bluenigellas im sorry to hear you’re in the same boat with a loss! I’m glad I’m not alone as a test addict though, it makes me feel a bet less mad! 😂 I sort of smugly expected it to be as easy the second time 🙄stupid me 🙈

@Ttcmumma thanks! Yeah I guess they also pick the best sounding results for the side of the pack too. I’m normally 30/31 days long and ovulating about cd14, though last month it was 27 days long and then I got a peak on cd16! So it’s all a bit messed up this month. But I do think the same each month about the dpo vs how many days off I am! Thanks for that info 🙂

Pregnancy tests go on an average 28 day cycle, assuming you ovulate on day 14 and have a 14 day luteal phase. So the day of your expected period would be 14dpo and missed period being 15dpo onwards so if you have shorter or longer cycles you just work out your dates yourself for being however many days it is before your period e.c.t hope that makes sense 😂xx

KittyAllTheWay · 07/06/2023 11:34

Thanks @Naomi2023 it does 😊 I was just making sure I’ve not been clutching at straws by convincing myself there’s still hope by looking at DPO and ignoring how close I am to my period 😂

I know what you mean, this ttc malarkey can get to you 🙈 subconsciously you know but you hope for the best anyway and tell yourself all sorts. I sometimes think it's sending me wappy 😅

KittyAllTheWay · 07/06/2023 21:06

Same! 😂 I can convince myself every. Single. Month. That I feel pregnant lol but nope! And the lines will come the more I stare at the tests 🙄😂 at least we’re all in it together!

Yep that's me too! 😅 And yes it definitely is 🥰 x

I believe those accuracy figures are for the accuracy of positive results, NOT the accuracy of whether you’re pregnant or not.

AlwaysPlayingYellowCar · 08/06/2023 07:20

What I mean is: they tell you about the likelihood of false positives, not false negatives.
