38 and TTC for #2 after 7 year gap....tell me everything I need to know!

Hi all!
Me and DP are looking to TTC for my #2 (his #1) relatively soon, we're not using protection at the moment but feel that I should really pay some attention to conception research etc, as I'm 38 (and a half) and have borderline PCOS. DP is 33.

I had my DS in 2016 so although I'm sure not much has changed in terms of the actual science of conception, I'm just wondering what has helped the older TTC's (35+ years old) conceive their first/seconds/etcs.

I've recently had a Hertility test done which showed pretty much all tests were in the range of normal apart from my AMH which was slightly elevated (consistent with PCOS, but having looked on the internet it's actually within acceptable levels for my age and indicates a good egg supply) which was a great relief as I've struggled with irregular periods for a while.

I'm using Natural Cycle (so BBT mainly and symptom tracking) with OPK's but my cycle has been quite irregular this year (bar last cycle) so I'm sort of out of touch with this kind of thing and don't necessarily know how long my cycle is for instance.

In terms of conception vitamins, is there a specific brand that you all recommend? Any other tips or tricks I should know? I fell pregnant very easily with DS (and had a miscarriage 8 months before that, which was an accidental pregnancy) but I was 31 (and conceived with my ex).

I know that if we're TTC-ing for 6+ months with no luck, to speak to GP, but as this would be my second I know IVF wouldn't be an NHS option for us.

Thanks in advance 😃

Hey,

I have recently conceived my second. I am almost 15 weeks and was 36 at the start of the year.

It took us 3 months to get pregnant same as it did with DD when I was 32 so been very lucky.

I used the easy at home ovulation tests and the Premom app to log those. App is free. Only tracked months 2 and 3. The month we got pregnant I followed the sperm meets egg plan (Google it) and did the deed on the days that it suggested. Wishing you luck x

I'm 37 ttc #1 . I did have a chemical in december but nothing since. I also have pcos. In terms of vitamins, the main concern with pcos is that it affects egg quality so I'm aware at this age its a battle between age related deterioration and pcos.
I'd suggest focusing on anything that can give your eggs a boost and avoiding those things that can degrade quality even more i.e sugar, smoking, alcohol.

I take dha omega 3 , i supplement this as im not a huge fan of fish. and I take Q10 to try and help egg equality. I also take inositol as it can help with pcos related egg quality and I take a multivitamin aswell , terranova pre natal. Other than following a healthy diet and getting some exercise , not excessively, and using ovulation kits to time sex accurately I think there's not much more you can do at this stage. For some women , like myself, it can take forever and for others it can happen really quickly. I guess you won't know for a few months of timing sex correctly but getting your body into a healthy place beforehand definitely will give you the best chance
