Cycle related cluster headaches?

This isn't directly ttc related, but it is cycle related, so hope on to post here.

Does anyone else experience cycle/hormone related cluster headaches. I get one every month between ovulation and my period - a tight, heavy pain behind my right eye and into my temple, usually coupled with some nausea and light aversion. I don't think it goes so fast as a full on migraine, but it lasts a day or two usually. Really frustrating to get a decent night's sleep and still wake up with it the following day!

My question is, what helps?! Paracetamol and ibuprofen don't touch it. Aspirin makes me feel more nauseous, which is unfortunate as that's what a GP told me to use years ago - three aspirin at onset of headache. It worked for a while, but I just can't stomach aspirin any more.

Any ideas, hints, tips or tricks would be hugely appreciated!

I would describe mine as more of a migraine, pain around right eye and side of head, nausea, dizziness. Have tried a few combinations of medication (my GP had a list of about 15 to work through before any further referrals). Almotriptan works well as pain relief for me, with cyclizine for nausea. Tried amitriptyline as a preventive which did help but made me constantly feel like a detached, exhausted zombie.

If they are truly cluster attacks you need proper medication, I would see a gp and they should refer you to a neurologist

Sumaptriptan are the medication that works,. prescription only
