Using leftover progesterone pessaries from failed IVF in natural cycle?

I had failed IVF earlier this year and have leftover Utrogestan pessaries, roughly 20 of them.

Is it possible to use these progesterone pessaries now I’m in my luteal phase to support potential implantation? Has anyone done this before?

I was on 3 x 200mg per day before, and was thinking of using just 1 x 200mg per day to give my progesterone levels a little lift without having any possible side effects.

I don’t know if it’s more of a mental thing that I will have tried to help things along, when actually it probably won’t physically help at all.

what do you think?

I feel like this makes sense - have no idea of implications but why the hell not? worst case nothing happens - best case it helps support pregnancy!

Yes, I did it. 1 morning, 1 night and stop if no positive test by 14dpo

That’s exactly my thought process!

What was the outcome for you?

Progesterone was never my issue but I did eventually carry to term after many miscarriages. I would be the first to say that it would have happened regardless but it’s just nice to feel like you’re ticking a box and it’s one less thing to worry about.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages, and absolutely, I am the same with saying ‘if it happens it happens’ but ticking that box as trying to help it a long can’t be a bad thing.

appreciate the advice!

No worries at all, I hope you are successful very soon!

I did this for 7 days along with taking clomid, it was successful for me. The only time other than when I've had IVF. The doctor would not prescribe anymore progesterone despite the positive test but I did not miscarry

That’s a positive outcome, thanks for sharing!

On what cycle days or DPO did you take it for 7 days?

I took one 200mg a day pessary starting 3 days after ovulation. Despite using the clomid I had different ovulation dates on Mira tracker and Ava bracelet and I didn't want to risk doing it too early

@whomoon I did this as part of a clinical trial I was put on with my NHS ivf clinic for unexplained infertility.

Did it for 3 cycles. Started taking them from ovulation until period arrived and if I had fallen pregnant I would taken them until 12 weeks.

It didn't work for me but I don't think I shOuld have been on the trial as my issue was low ovarian reserve, endometriosis and adenomysosis.

Best of luck xxx

Thank you for sharing your experience and sorry it did not work for you.

It’s great that you were part of the trial though as it’s ladies like you that create the data for future science! After having failed IVF, the more I believe in Mother Nature trumping science to be fair, but it paves the way for helping it along.

We are unexplained too, hence giving this a go this month. If I have fallen pregnant, I’d feel giving my body that extra bit of progesterone to sustain the pregnancy can’t be a bad thing.

@whomoon it's absolutely worth a go and you should update this thread for people who might be thinking to do the same.

I'm very lucky ivf did work for us but I remember the dr running the trial said this could save lots of women from needing ivf! Xxx

Well I tested this morning which I believe to be 13dpo, period due in 2 days, and it was a BFN.

I was hopeful as I had little niggles and stabby pains, but I know that’s likely the progesterone side effects. Also I’ve had no spotting, as I can spot anywhere from 2 days to 7 days before my period starts. I know progesterone can stop the spotting, however when I took it on my IVF round, it didn’t stop the spotting at all.

Worth giving it a shot I think!
