Metformin despite no Insulin resistance?

I've brought up the question of Metformin at the last doctors call (where they extended my Letrozole prescription by 3 months) and the doctor said she doesn't know if it would do anything for me as they normally use Metformin for overweight people (I've never had weight problems). She also requested Blood tests for me to test if there is a level of insulin resistance (Fasting blood test came back right in the middle or normal range, non-fasting blood test is booked for 2 weeks time).

Basically, can Metformin help even if my PCOS does not seem to come with insulin resistance?

I was told metformin is prescribed to combat Insulin resistance as the high blood sugars affect your hormones.
If you don't have an insulin resistance and elevated blood sugars, id probably side with the doctor and say I'm not sure what use metformin would do for you. It could possibly have a negative effect by lowering your blood sugars which could be dangerous since yours aren't high to begin with. perhaps they are reluctant to prescribe it to you as they don't feel it would be safe? Ive seen some people on here say metformin lowers androgens but I've seen about 8 different gynaes and fertility consultants in the past year and none of them have ever said it would help with that, just for the resistance.
I personally have seen no improvement, if anything my symptoms have got worse ( excessive hair) since being on metformin. It didn't help regulate my periods and the side effects were horrendous. I personally am pre diabetic so they are always pushing for me to continue with it but otherwise I wouldn't take it

I have PCOS and am not overweight and blood sugar/HbA1c have always been normal. I have had 2 cycles of IVF stimulation. On the first one I had around 30 eggs, 7 embryos but only 1 was normal. I was put on metformin the second time and ended up with a similar number of eggs but 8 out of 10 embryos were genetically normal. The consultant felt that it might well have been the metformin that made the difference and she has told me to keep taking it and to continue throughout any pregnancy. Might just be luck but for me I'd say it was worth a try - although I haven't had any side effects from it.
